Background & benefit
A supplication for Allah’s love and actions that lead to it.
Good for spiritual aspiration, sincerity, and love-based worship.
Recite when working on character, anger, jealousy, impatience, pride, relationships, or personal reform.

Source & authenticity
Source: Hadith/Dhikr
Reference: Sahih Muslim 771
Authenticity: Hasan
Tirmidhī explicitly grades this report as ḥasan gharīb, and later hadith scholars agree that its chain is acceptable; it is widely cited in books of dua and spiritual purification. Caution: Some summaries truncate the dua to only “Allāhumma innī as’aluka ḥubbak …” and omit the second sentence; including the full wording keeps the balanced emphasis on love, righteous deeds, and preferring Allah over all else.
