Translation
O Allah, You are my Lord; none is worthy of worship but You. You created me and I am Your servant. I keep Your covenant as much as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge Your favour and my sin, so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You.

Background & benefit
In this hadith, the Prophet ﷺ calls this wording “the master (most superior) of seeking forgiveness,” describing a servant who acknowledges Allah’s lordship, favors, and his own sins, and asks for pardon. The dua summarizes the believer’s relationship with Allah: recognition of His oneness and lordship, confession of His favors, admission of one’s sins, and a plea for forgiveness. Its structure teaches deep humility and hope.
Regularly reciting it nurtures sincere tawbah and a truthful view of oneself as a servant dependent on Allah’s mercy. The hadith mentions a special hope for Paradise for those who die after sincerely reciting it morning or night.
Recite in the morning and evening, and whenever seeking forgiveness with humility and certainty.
The Prophet ﷺ mentioned that whoever says it during the day with certainty and dies before evening will be among the people of Paradise, and whoever says it at night with certainty and dies before morning will be among the people of Paradise.
