Source & authenticity
Source: Hadith/Dhikr
Reference: Sunan Abī Dāwūd 30; also in other collections with the same
Authenticity: Sahih
Abū Dāwūd 30 is graded ṣaḥīḥ by al‑Albānī, and additional chains in other books confirm that the Prophet ﷺ would say this simple istighfār after leaving the restroom. Some later books mention more elaborate phrases after exiting the toilet; to stay closest to the authentic report, the concise wording “Ghufrānaka” is the safest wording to learn and recite.
