  1. 1

    Waṣṣaaaffaati ṣaffaa.

By those [angels] lined up in rows

  2. 2

    Fazzaajiraati zajraa.

And those who drive [the clouds]

  3. 3

    Fattaaliyaati Ẓikraa.

And those who recite the message,

  4. 4

    ʹInna ʹIlaahakum la-Waaḥid!―

    Indeed, your God is One,

  5. 5

    Rabbus samaawaati wal-ʹarḍi wa-maa baynahumaa wa-Rabbul mashaariq̣!

Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises.

  6. 6

ʹInnaa zayyannas samaaa ʹad-dunyaa bizeenatinil kawaakib,―

Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars

  7. 7

    Wa-ḥifz̤̣am miñ kulli Shayṭaanim maarid,

And as protection against every rebellious devil

  8. 8

Laa- yassammaʻoona ʹilal Malaʹil ʹAʻlaa wa-yuq̣ẓafoona miñ kulli jaanib,

[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side,

  9. 9

    Duḥoorañw Walahum ʻaẓaabuñw waaṣib,

Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,

  10. 10

ʹIllaa man khaṭifal khaṭfata faʹatbaʻahoo shihaabuñ s̤aaq̣ib.

Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].

  11. 11

Fastaftihim ʹahum ʹashaddu khalq̣an ʹam man khalaq̣naa? ʹInnaa khalaq̣naahum miñ ṭeenil laazib!

Then inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created them [i.e., men] from sticky clay.

  12. 12

    Bal ʹajibta wa-yaskharoon,

But you wonder, while they mock,

  13. 13

    Wa-ʹiẓaa ẓukkiroo laa- yaẓkuroon,―

And when they are reminded, they remember not.

  14. 14

    Wa-ʹiẓaa raʹaw ʹaayatañ yastaskhiroon.

And when they see a sign, they ridicule.

  15. 15

Wa-q̣aalooo ʹin haaẓaaa ʹillaa siḥrum mubeen!

And say, "This is not but obvious magic.

  16. 16

    ʹA-ʹiẓaa mitnaa wa-kunnaa turabañw waʻiz̤̣aaman ʹa-ʹinnaa lamabʻoos̤oon.

When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?

  17. 17

    ʹA-waʹaabaaaʹunal ʹawwaloon?

    And our forefathers [as well]?"

  18. 18

    Q̣ul naʻam wa-ʹañtum daakhiroon.

Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible."

  19. 19

Faʹinnamaa hiya zajratuñw waaḥidatuñ faʹiẓaa hum yañz̤̣uroon!

It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing.

  20. 20

    Wa-q̣aaloo yaa-waylanaa haaẓaa Yawmud deen!

They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense."

  21. 21

Haaẓaa Yawmul Faṣlil laẓee kuñtum̃ bihee tukaẓẓiboon!

[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."

  22. 22

    ʹUḥshurul laẓeena z̤̣alamoo wa-ʹazwaajahum wa-maa kaanoo yaʻbudoon.

[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship

  23. 23

Miñ doonil laahi fahdoohum ʹilaa Ṣiraaṭil Jaḥeem!

Other than Allāh, and guide them to the path of Hellfire

  24. 24

    Waq̣ifoohum ʹinnahum masʹooloon:

And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned."

  25. 25

    Maa- lakum laa- tanaaṣaroon?

[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?"

  26. 26

    بَلْ هُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ

    Bal humul yawma mustaslimoon;

But they, that Day, are in surrender.

  27. 27

    Wa-ʹaq̣bala baʻḍuhum ʻalaa baʻḍiñy yatasaaaʹaloon.

And they will approach one another asking [i.e., blaming] each other.

  28. 28

Q̣aalooo ʹinnakum kuñtum taʹtoonanaa ʻanil yameen!

They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."

  29. 29

    Q̣aaloo bal lam takoonoo Muʹmineen!

They [i.e., the oppressors] will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,

  30. 30

Wa-maa kaana lanaa ʻalaykum miñ sulṭaan. Bal kuñtum q̣awmañ ṭaag̣een!

And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.

  31. 31

    Faḥaq̣q̣a ʻalaynaa Q̣awlu Rabbinaaa ʹinnaa laẓaaaʹiq̣oon.

So the word [i.e., decree] of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].

  32. 32

    Faʹag̣waynaakum ʹinnaa kunnaa g̣aaween.

And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."

  33. 33

    Faʹinnahum Yawmaʹiẓiñ fil ʻAẓaabi mushtarikoon.

So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment.

  34. 34

    ʹInnaa kaẓaalika nafʻalu bil-mujrimeen.

Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.

  35. 35

ʹInnahum kaanooo ʹiẓaa q̣eela lahum ˹Laaa ʹilaaha ʹillal laahu˺ yastakbiroon,

Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allāh," were arrogant

  36. 36

Wa-yaq̣ooloona ʹaʹinnaa lataarikooo ʹaalihatinaa lishaaʻirim majnoon?

And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"

  37. 37

    Bal jaaaʹa bil-Ḥaq̣q̣i wa-ṣaddaq̣al mursaleen.

Rather, he [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.

  38. 38

    إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَلِيمِ

    ʹInnakum laẓaaaʹiq̣ul ʻAẓaabil ʹAleem;

Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment,

  39. 39

    وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

    Wa-maa tujzawna ʹillaa maa- kuñtum taʻmaloon;

And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -

  40. 40

    ʹIllaa ʻibaadal laahil mukhlaṣeen.

But not the chosen servants of Allāh.

  41. 41

    ʹUlaaaʹika lahum Rizq̣um maʻloom,

Those will have a provision determined -

  42. 42

    Fawaakihu wa-hum mukramoon,

Fruits; and they will be honored

  43. 43

    Fee Jannaatin Naʻeem,

    In gardens of pleasure

  44. 44

    ʻAlaa sururim mutaq̣aabileen:

    On thrones facing one another.

  45. 45

    Yuṭaafu ʻalayhim̃ bikaʹsim mim maʻeen,

There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring,

  46. 46

    بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ

    Bayḍaaaʹa laẓẓatillish shaaribeen,

    White and delicious to the drinkers;

  47. 47

Laa- feehaa g̣awluñw walaa hum ʻanhaa yuñzafoon.

No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.

  48. 48

    Wa-ʻiñdahum q̣aaṣiraatuṭ ṭarfi ʻeen,

And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes,

  49. 49

    Kaʹannahunna bayḍum maknoon.

As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.

  50. 50

    Faʹaq̣bala baʻḍuhum ʻalaa baʻḍiñy yatasaaaʹaloon.

And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.

  51. 51

    Q̣aala q̣aaaʹilum minhum ʹinnee kaana lee q̣areen,

A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth].

  52. 52

    Yaq̣oolu ʹa-ʹinnaka laminal muṣaddiq̣een?

Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe

  53. 53

    ʹA-ʹiẓaa mitnaa wa-kunnaa turaabañw waʻiz̤̣aaman ʹa-ʹinnaa lamadeenoon?

That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"

  54. 54

    Q̣aala hal ʹañtum muṭṭaliʻoon?

He will say, "Would you [care to] look?"

  55. 55

    Faṭṭalaʻa faraʹaahu fee sawaaaʹil Jaḥeem.

And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire.

  56. 56

    Q̣aala tallaahi ʹiñ kitta laturdeen!

He will say, "By Allāh, you almost ruined me.

  57. 57

Wa-lawlaa Niʻmatu Rabbee lakuñtu minal muḥḍareen!

If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell].

  58. 58

    ʹAfamaa naḥnu bimayyiteen,

Then, are we not to die

  59. 59

ʹIllaa mawtatanal ʹoolaa wa-maa naḥnu bimuʻaẓẓabeen?

Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"

  60. 60

    ʹInna haaẓaa lahuwal fawzul ʻaz̤̣eem!

Indeed, this is the great attainment.

  61. 61

    Limis̤li haaẓaa falyaʻmalil ʻaamiloon.

For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.

  62. 62

ʹAẓaalika khayrun nuzulan ʹam Shajaratuz Zaq̣q̣oom?

Is that [i.e., Paradise] a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqūm?

  63. 63

    ʹInnaa jaʻalnaahaa fitnatal liz̤̣z̤̣aalimeen.

Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.

  64. 64

ʹInnahaa shajaratuñ takhruju feee ʹaṣlil Jaḥeem:

Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,

  65. 65

    Ṭalʻuhaa kaʹannahoo ruʹoosush shayaaṭeen:

Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.

  66. 66

Faʹinnahum laʹaakiloona minhaa famaaliʹoona minhal buṭoon.

And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.

  67. 67

S̤umma ʹinna lahum ʻalayhaa lashawbam min ḥameem.

Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.

  68. 68

    S̤umma ʹinna marjiʻahum laʹilal Jaḥeem.

Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.

  69. 69

    إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَ

    ʹInnahum ʹalfaw ʹaabaaaʹahum ḍaaalleen;

Indeed they found their fathers astray.

  70. 70

    Fahum ʻalaaa ʹaas̤aarihim yuhraʻoon!

So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.

  71. 71

    Wa-laq̣ad ḍalla q̣ablahum ʹaks̤arul ʹawwaleen;―

And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,

  72. 72

    Wa-laq̣ad ʹarsalnaa feehim muñẓireen;―

And We had already sent among them warners.

  73. 73

    Fañz̤̣ur kayfa kaana ʻAaq̣ibatul muñẓareen,―

Then look how was the end of those who were warned -

  74. 74

    ʹIllaa ʻibaadal laahil mukhlaṣeen.

But not the chosen servants of Allāh.

  75. 75

    Wa-laq̣ad naadaanaa Nooḥuñ falaniʻmal Mujeeboon,

And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.

  76. 76

    Wa-najjaynaahu wa-ʹahlahoo minal Karbil ʻAz̤̣eem,

And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.

  77. 77

    Wa-jaʻalnaa ẓurriyyatahoo humul baaq̣een.

And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]

  78. 78

    Wa-taraknaa ʻalayhi fil ʹaakhireen:

And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:

  79. 79

    Salaamun ʻalaa Nooḥiñ fil ʻaalameen!

"Peace upon Noah among the worlds."

  80. 80

    ʹInnaa kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

  81. 81

    ʹInnahoo min ʻibaadinal Muʹmineen.

Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

  82. 82

    S̤umma ʹag̣raq̣nal ʹaakhareen.

Then We drowned the others [i.e., disbelievers].

  83. 83

    Wa-ʹinna miñ Sheeʻatihee laʹIbraaheem.

And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,

  84. 84

    ʹIẓ jaaaʹa Rabbahoo biq̣albiñ saleem.

When he came to his Lord with a sound heart

  85. 85

ʹIẓ q̣aala liʹabeehi wa-q̣awmihee maaẓaa taʻbudoon?

[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?

  86. 86

    ʹAʹifkan ʹaalihatañ doonal laahi tureedoon?

Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allāh you desire?

  87. 87

    Famaa z̤̣annukum̃ bi-Rabbil ʻAalameen?

Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"

  88. 88

    Fanaz̤̣ara naz̤̣ratañ fin Nujoom,

And he cast a look at the stars

  89. 89

    Faq̣aala ʹinnee saq̣eem!

And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."

  90. 90

    Fatawallaw ʻanhu mudbireen.

So they turned away from him, departing.

  91. 91

Faraag̣a ʹilaaa ʹaalihatihim faq̣aala ʹalaa taʹkuloon?...

Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?

  92. 92

    Maa- lakum laa- tañṭiq̣oon?

What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?"

  93. 93

    Faraag̣a ʻalayhim ḍarbam bilyameen.

And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.

  94. 94

    Faʹaq̣balooo ʹilayhi yaziffoon.

Then they [i.e., the people] came toward him, hastening.

  95. 95

    Q̣aala ʹataʻbudoona maa- tanḥitoon?

He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,

  96. 96

    Wallaahu khalaq̣akum wa-maa taʻmaloon!

While Allāh created you and that which you do?"

  97. 97

    Q̣aalub noo lahoo bun-yaanañ faʹalq̣oohu fil Jaḥeem!

They said, "Construct for him a structure [i.e., furnace] and throw him into the burning fire."

  98. 98

    Faʹaraadoo bihee kaydañ fajaʻalnaahumul ʹasfaleen!

And they intended for him a plan [i.e., harm], but We made them the most debased.

  99. 99

Wa-q̣aala ʹinnee ẓaahibun ʹilaa Rabbee sayahdeen!

And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.

  100. 100

    Rabbi hab lee minaṣ Ṣaaliḥeen!

My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."

  101. 101

    Fabashsharnaahu big̣ulaamin ḥaleem.

So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.

  102. 102

Falammaa balag̣a maʻahus saʻya q̣aala yaa-bunayya ʹinneee ʹaraa fil manaami ʹanneee ʹaẓbaḥuka fañz̤̣ur maaẓaa taraa! Q̣aala yaaaʹabatif ʻal maa- tuʹmar: satajiduneee ʹiñ shaaa ʹallaahu minaṣ Ṣaabireen!

And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allāh wills, of the steadfast."

  103. 103

    Falammaaa ʹaslamaa wa-tallahoo liljabeen,

And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead,

  104. 104

    Wa-naadaynaahu ʹañy YaaaʹIbraaheem!

We called to him, "O Abraham,

  105. 105

Q̣ad ṣaddaq̣tar ruʹyaa! ʹInnaa kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

You have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

  106. 106

    ʹInna haaẓaa lahuwal balaaaʹul mubeen.

Indeed, this was the clear trial.

  107. 107

    Wa-fadaynaahu biẓibḥin ʻaz̤̣eem:

And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,

  108. 108

    Wa-taraknaa ʻalayhi fil ʹaakhireen:

And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:

  109. 109

    Salaamun ʻalaaa ʹIbraaheem!

    "Peace upon Abraham."

  110. 110

    Kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

  111. 111

    ʹInnahoo min ʻIbaadinal Muʹmineen.

Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

  112. 112

    Wa-bashsharnaahu biʹIsḥaaq̣a Nabiyyam minaṣ Ṣaaliḥeen.

And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous.

  113. 113

    Wa-baaraknaa ʻalayhi wa-ʻalaaa ʹIsḥaaq̣: wa-miñ ẓurriyyatihimaa muḥsinuñw waz̤̣aalimul linafsihee mubeen.

And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself [i.e., sinner].

  114. 114

    Wa-laq̣ad manannaa ʻalaa Moosaa wa-Haaroon.

And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron.

  115. 115

    وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

    Wa-najjaynaahumaa wa-q̣awmahumaa minal Karbil ʻAz̤̣eem;

And We saved them and their people from the great affliction,

  116. 116

    Wa-naṣarnaahum fakaanoo humul g̣aalibeen.

And We supported them so it was they who overcame.

  117. 117

    وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَ

    Wa-ʹaataynaahumal kitaabal mustabeen;

And We gave them the explicit Scripture [i.e., the Torah],

  118. 118

    Wa-hadaynaahumaṣ Ṣiraaṭal Mustaq̣eem.

And We guided them on the straight path.

  119. 119

    Wa-taraknaa ʻalayhimaa fil ʹaakhireen:

And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations:

  120. 120

    Salaamun ʻalaa Moosaa wa-Haroon!

    "Peace upon Moses and Aaron."

  121. 121

    ʹInnaa kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

  122. 122

    ʹInnahumaa min ʻibaadinal Muʹmineen.

Indeed, they were of Our believing servants.

  123. 123

    Wa-ʹinna ʹIlyaasa laminal mursaleen.

And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers,

  124. 124

    ʹIẓ q̣aala liq̣awmiheee ʹalaa tattaq̣oon?

When he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allāh?

  125. 125

    ʹAtadʻoona taẓaroona Baʻlañwwa ʹAḥsanal Khaaliq̣een,―

Do you call upon Baʿl and leave the best of creators -

  126. 126

    ʹAllaaha Rabbakum wa-Rabba ʹaabaaaʹikumul ʹawwaleen?

Allāh, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers?"

  127. 127

    Fakaẓẓaboohu faʹinnahum lamuḥḍaroon,―

And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment],

  128. 128

    ʹIllaa ʻibaadal laahil mukhlaṣeen.

Except the chosen servants of Allāh.

  129. 129

    Wa-taraknaa ʻalayhi fil ʹaakhireen:

And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:

  130. 130

    Salaamun ʻalaaa ʹIlyaaseen!

    "Peace upon Elias."

  131. 131

    ʹInnaa kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

  132. 132

    ʹInnahoo min ʻIbaadinal Muʹmineen.

Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

  133. 133

    Wa-ʹinna Looṭal laminal mursaleen.

And indeed, Lot was among the messengers.

  134. 134

    ʹIẓ najjaynaahu wa-ʹahlahooo ʹajmaʻeen,

[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all,

  135. 135

    ʹIllaa ʻajoozañ fil g̣aabireen:

Except an old woman [i.e., his wife] among those who remained [with the evildoers].

  136. 136

    S̤umma dammarnal ʹaakhareen.

    Then We destroyed the others.

  137. 137

    Wa-ʹinnakum latamurroona ʻalayhim muṣbiḥeen―

And indeed, you pass by them in the morning

  138. 138

    Wa-billayli ʹafalaa taʻq̣iloon?

And at night. Then will you not use reason?

  139. 139

    Wa-ʹinna Yoonusa laminal mursaleen.

And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers.

  140. 140

    ʹIẓ ʹabaq̣a ʹilal fulkil mashḥoon.

[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship.

  141. 141

    Fasaahama fakaana minal mudḥaḍeen:

And he drew lots and was among the losers.

  142. 142

    Faltaq̣amahul Ḥootu wa-huwa muleem.

Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy.

  143. 143

    Falawlaaa ʹannahoo kaana minal musabbiḥeen,

And had he not been of those who exalt Allāh,

  144. 144

Lalabis̤a fee baṭniheee ʹilaa Yawmi yubʻas̤oon.

He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected.

  145. 145

    Fanabaẓnaahu bilʻaraaaʹi wa-huwa saq̣eem.

But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill.

  146. 146

    Wa-ʹambatnaa ʻalayhi shajaratam miñy yaq̣ṭeen.

And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine.

  147. 147

Wa-ʹarsalnaahu ʹilaa miʹati ʹalfin ʹaw yazeedoon.

And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more.

  148. 148

    Faʹaamanoo famattaʻnaahum ʹilaa ḥeen.

And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time.

  149. 149

    Fastaftihim ʹa-li-Rabbikal banaatu wa-lahumul banoon?―

So inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?

  150. 150

ʹAm khalaq̣nal malaaaʹikata ʹinaas̤añw Wahum shaahidoon?

Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?"

  151. 151

    ʹAlaaa ʹinnahum min ʹifkihim layaq̣ooloon:

Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say,

  152. 152

    Waladal laahu wa-ʹinnahum lakaaẓiboon!

"Allāh has begotten," and indeed, they are liars.

  153. 153

    ʹAṣṭafal banaati ʻalal baneen?

Has He chosen daughters over sons?

  154. 154

    Maa- lakum Kayfa taḥkumoon?

What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement?

  155. 155

    ʹAfalaa taẓakkaroon?

Then will you not be reminded?

  156. 156

    ʹAm lakum sulṭaanum mubeen?

Or do you have a clear authority?

  157. 157

    Faʹtoo bi-Kitaabikum ʹiñ kuñtum ṣaadiq̣een!

Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful.

  158. 158

Wa-jaʻaloo baynahoo wa-baynal Jinnati nasabaa: wa-laq̣ad ʻalimatil Jinnatu ʹinnahum lamuḥḍaroon!

And they have made [i.e., claimed] between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought [to punishment].

  159. 159

    Subḥaanal laahi ʻammaa yaṣifoon!

Exalted is Allāh above what they describe,

  160. 160

    ʹIllaa ʻIbaadal laahil mukhlaṣeen.

Except the chosen servants of Allāh [who do not share in that sin].

  161. 161

    Faʹinnakum wa-maa taʻbudoon―

So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship,

  162. 162

    Maaa ʹañtum ʻalayhi bifaatineen,

You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him

  163. 163

    ʹIllaa man huwa ṣaalil Jaḥeem!

Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire.

  164. 164

    وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامٌ مَّعْلُومٌ

    Wa-maa minnaaa ʹillaa lahoo maq̣aamum maʻloom;

[The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position.

  165. 165

    وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَ

    Wa-ʹinnaa lanaḥnuṣ ṣaaaffoon;

And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer].

  166. 166

    Wa-ʹinnaa lanaḥnul musabbiḥoon!

And indeed, we are those who exalt Allāh."

  167. 167

    Wa-ʹiñ kaanoo layaq̣ooloon,

And indeed, they [i.e., the disbelievers] used to say,

  168. 168

Law ʹanna ʻiñdanaa Ẓikram minal ʹawwaleen,

"If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples,

  169. 169

    Lakunnaa ʻIbaadal laahil mukhlaṣeen!

We would have been the chosen servants of Allāh."

  170. 170

    Fakafaroo bihee fasawfa yaʻlamoon!

But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know.

  171. 171

    وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

    Wa-laq̣ad sabaq̣at Kalimatunaa liʻIbaadinal mursaleen;

And Our word [i.e., decree] has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers,

  172. 172

    ʹInnahum lahumul mañṣooroon,

[That] indeed, they would be those given victory

  173. 173

    Wa-ʹinna juñdanaa lahumul g̣aaliboon.

And [that] indeed, Our soldiers [i.e., the believers] will be those who overcome.

  174. 174

    Fatawalla ʻanhum ḥattaa ḥeen,

So, [O Muḥammad], leave them for a time.

  175. 175

    Wa-ʹabṣirhum fasawfa yubṣiroon!

And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see.

  176. 176

    ʹAfabiʻaẓaabinaa yastaʻjiloon?

Then for Our punishment are they impatient?

  177. 177

Faʹiẓaa nazala bisaaḥatihim fasaaaʹa ṣabaaḥul muñẓareen!

But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned.

  178. 178

    Wa-tawalla ʻanhum ḥattaa ḥeen,

And leave them for a time.

  179. 179

    Wa-ʹabṣir fasawfa yubṣiroon!

And see, for they are going to see.

  180. 180

Subḥaana Rabbika Rabbil ʻIzzati ʻammaa yaṣifoon!

Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe.

  181. 181

    Wa-Salaamun ʻalal mursaleen!

    And peace upon the messengers.

  182. 182

    Wal-Ḥamdu lillaahi Rabbil ʻAalameen.

And praise to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.
