بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Surah As-Saffat

Surah As-Saffat (Those who set the Ranks) is Surah 37 of the Holy Quran, a Meccan Surah with 182 verses, available here in English.

Verse 37:1

وَالصّٰٓفّٰتِ صَفًّا ۟ۙ

Waṣṣaaaffaati ṣaffaa.

By those ˹angels˺ lined up in ranks,

Verse 37:2

فَالزّٰجِرٰتِ زَجْرًا ۟ۙ

Fazzaajiraati zajraa.

and those who diligently drive ˹the clouds˺,

Verse 37:3

فَالتّٰلِیٰتِ ذِكْرًا ۟ۙ

Fattaaliyaati Ẓikraa.

and those who recite the Reminder!

Verse 37:4

اِنَّ اِلٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ ۟ؕ

ʹInna ʹIlaahakum la-Waaḥid!―

Surely your God is One!

Verse 37:5

رَبُّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَمَا بَیْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ ۟ؕ

Rabbus samaawaati wal-ʹarḍi wa-maa baynahumaa wa-Rabbul mashaariq̣!

˹He is˺ the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between, and the Lord of all points of sunrise.

Verse 37:6

اِنَّا زَیَّنَّا السَّمَآءَ الدُّنْیَا بِزِیْنَةِ لْكَوَاكِبِ ۟ۙ

ʹInnaa zayyannas samaaa ʹad-dunyaa bizeenatinil kawaakib,―

Indeed, We have adorned the lowest heaven with the stars for decoration

Verse 37:7

وَحِفْظًا مِّنْ كُلِّ شَیْطٰنٍ مَّارِدٍ ۟ۚ

Wa-ḥifz̤̣am miñ kulli Shayṭaanim maarid,

and ˹for˺ protection from every rebellious devil.

Verse 37:8

لَا یَسَّمَّعُوْنَ اِلَی الْمَلَاِ الْاَعْلٰی وَیُقْذَفُوْنَ مِنْ كُلِّ جَانِبٍ ۟ۗۖ

Laa- yassammaʻoona ʹilal Malaʹil ʹAʻlaa wa-yuq̣ẓafoona miñ kulli jaanib,

They cannot listen to the highest assembly ˹of angels˺ for they are pelted from every side,

Verse 37:9

دُحُوْرًا وَّلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَّاصِبٌ ۟ۙ

Duḥoorañw Walahum ʻaẓaabuñw waaṣib,

˹fiercely˺ driven away. And they will suffer an everlasting torment.

Verse 37:10

اِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَاَتْبَعَهٗ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ ۟

ʹIllaa man khaṭifal khaṭfata faʹatbaʻahoo shihaabuñ s̤aaq̣ib.

But whoever manages to stealthily eavesdrop is ˹instantly˺ pursued by a piercing flare.

Verse 37:11

فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ اَهُمْ اَشَدُّ خَلْقًا اَمْ مَّنْ خَلَقْنَا ؕ اِنَّا خَلَقْنٰهُمْ مِّنْ طِیْنٍ لَّازِبٍ ۟

Fastaftihim ʹahum ʹashaddu khalq̣an ʹam man khalaq̣naa? ʹInnaa khalaq̣naahum miñ ṭeenil laazib!

So ask them ˹O Prophet˺, which is harder to create: them or other marvels of Our creation? Indeed, We created them from a sticky clay.

Verse 37:12

بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَیَسْخَرُوْنَ ۪۟

Bal ʹajibta wa-yaskharoon,

In fact, you are astonished ˹by their denial˺, while they ridicule ˹you˺.

Verse 37:13

وَاِذَا ذُكِّرُوْا لَا یَذْكُرُوْنَ ۪۟

Wa-ʹiẓaa ẓukkiroo laa- yaẓkuroon,―

When they are reminded, they are never mindful.

Verse 37:14

وَاِذَا رَاَوْا اٰیَةً یَّسْتَسْخِرُوْنَ ۪۟

Wa-ʹiẓaa raʹaw ʹaayatañ yastaskhiroon.

And whenever they see a sign, they make fun of it,

Verse 37:15

وَقَالُوْۤا اِنْ هٰذَاۤ اِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِیْنٌ ۟ۚۖ

Wa-q̣aalooo ʹin haaẓaaa ʹillaa siḥrum mubeen!

saying, “This is nothing but pure magic.

Verse 37:16

ءَاِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَّعِظَامًا ءَاِنَّا لَمَبْعُوْثُوْنَ ۟ۙ

ʹA-ʹiẓaa mitnaa wa-kunnaa turabañw waʻiz̤̣aaman ʹa-ʹinnaa lamabʻoos̤oon.

When we are dead and reduced to dust and bones, will we really be resurrected?

Verse 37:17

اَوَاٰبَآؤُنَا الْاَوَّلُوْنَ ۟ؕ

ʹA-waʹaabaaaʹunal ʹawwaloon?

And our forefathers as well?”

Verse 37:18

قُلْ نَعَمْ وَاَنْتُمْ دَاخِرُوْنَ ۟ۚ

Q̣ul naʻam wa-ʹañtum daakhiroon.

Say, “Yes! And you will be fully humbled.”

Verse 37:19

فَاِنَّمَا هِیَ زَجْرَةٌ وَّاحِدَةٌ فَاِذَا هُمْ یَنْظُرُوْنَ ۟

Faʹinnamaa hiya zajratuñw waaḥidatuñ faʹiẓaa hum yañz̤̣uroon!

It will only take one Blast, then at once they will see ˹it all˺.

Verse 37:20

وَقَالُوْا یٰوَیْلَنَا هٰذَا یَوْمُ الدِّیْنِ ۟

Wa-q̣aaloo yaa-waylanaa haaẓaa Yawmud deen!

They will cry, “Oh, woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!”

Verse 37:21

هٰذَا یَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِیْ كُنْتُمْ بِهٖ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ ۟۠

Haaẓaa Yawmul Faṣlil laẓee kuñtum̃ bihee tukaẓẓiboon!

˹They will be told,˺ “This is the Day of ˹Final˺ Decision which you used to deny.”

Verse 37:22

اُحْشُرُوا الَّذِیْنَ ظَلَمُوْا وَاَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوْا یَعْبُدُوْنَ ۟ۙ

ʹUḥshurul laẓeena z̤̣alamoo wa-ʹazwaajahum wa-maa kaanoo yaʻbudoon.

˹Allah will say to the angels,˺ “Gather ˹all˺ the wrongdoers along with their peers, and whatever they used to worship

Verse 37:23

مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ فَاهْدُوْهُمْ اِلٰی صِرَاطِ الْجَحِیْمِ ۟

Miñ doonil laahi fahdoohum ʹilaa Ṣiraaṭil Jaḥeem!

instead of Allah, then lead them ˹all˺ to the path of Hell.

Verse 37:24

وَقِفُوْهُمْ اِنَّهُمْ مَّسْـُٔوْلُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Waq̣ifoohum ʹinnahum masʹooloon:

And detain them, for they must be questioned.”

Verse 37:25

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُوْنَ ۟

Maa- lakum laa- tanaaṣaroon?

˹Then they will be asked,˺ “What is the matter with you that you can no longer help each other?”

Verse 37:26

بَلْ هُمُ الْیَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُوْنَ ۟

Bal humul yawma mustaslimoon;

In fact, on that Day they will be ˹fully˺ submissive.

Verse 37:27

وَاَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلٰی بَعْضٍ یَّتَسَآءَلُوْنَ ۟

Wa-ʹaq̣bala baʻḍuhum ʻalaa baʻḍiñy yatasaaaʹaloon.

They will turn on each other, throwing blame.

Verse 37:28

قَالُوْۤا اِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَاْتُوْنَنَا عَنِ الْیَمِیْنِ ۟

Q̣aalooo ʹinnakum kuñtum taʹtoonanaa ʻanil yameen!

The misled will say, “It was you who deluded us away from what is right.”

Verse 37:29

قَالُوْا بَلْ لَّمْ تَكُوْنُوْا مُؤْمِنِیْنَ ۟ۚ

Q̣aaloo bal lam takoonoo Muʹmineen!

The misleaders will reply, “No! You disbelieved on your own.

Verse 37:30

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَیْكُمْ مِّنْ سُلْطٰنٍ ۚ بَلْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا طٰغِیْنَ ۟

Wa-maa kaana lanaa ʻalaykum miñ sulṭaan. Bal kuñtum q̣awmañ ṭaag̣een!

We had no authority over you. In fact, you yourselves were a transgressing people.

Verse 37:31

فَحَقَّ عَلَیْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَاۤ ۖۗ اِنَّا لَذَآىِٕقُوْنَ ۟

Faḥaq̣q̣a ʻalaynaa Q̣awlu Rabbinaaa ʹinnaa laẓaaaʹiq̣oon.

The decree of our Lord has come to pass against us ˹all˺: we will certainly taste ˹the punishment˺.

Verse 37:32

فَاَغْوَیْنٰكُمْ اِنَّا كُنَّا غٰوِیْنَ ۟

Faʹag̣waynaakum ʹinnaa kunnaa g̣aaween.

We caused you to deviate, for we ourselves were deviant.”

Verse 37:33

فَاِنَّهُمْ یَوْمَىِٕذٍ فِی الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُوْنَ ۟

Faʹinnahum Yawmaʹiẓiñ fil ʻAẓaabi mushtarikoon.

Surely on that Day they will ˹all˺ share in the punishment.

Verse 37:34

اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِیْنَ ۟

ʹInnaa kaẓaalika nafʻalu bil-mujrimeen.

That is certainly how We deal with the wicked.

Verse 37:35

اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوْۤا اِذَا قِیْلَ لَهُمْ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُۙ یَسْتَكْبِرُوْنَ ۟ۙ

ʹInnahum kaanooo ʹiẓaa q̣eela lahum ˹Laaa ʹilaaha ʹillal laahu˺ yastakbiroon,

For whenever it was said to them ˹in the world˺, “There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah,” they acted arrogantly

Verse 37:36

وَیَقُوْلُوْنَ اَىِٕنَّا لَتَارِكُوْۤا اٰلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُوْنٍ ۟ؕ

Wa-yaq̣ooloona ʹaʹinnaa lataarikooo ʹaalihatinaa lishaaʻirim majnoon?

and argued, “Should we really abandon our gods for a mad poet?”

Verse 37:37

بَلْ جَآءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَلِیْنَ ۟

Bal jaaaʹa bil-Ḥaq̣q̣i wa-ṣaddaq̣al mursaleen.

In fact, he came with the truth, confirming ˹earlier˺ messengers.

Verse 37:38

اِنَّكُمْ لَذَآىِٕقُوا الْعَذَابِ الْاَلِیْمِ ۟ۚ

ʹInnakum laẓaaaʹiq̣ul ʻAẓaabil ʹAleem;

You will certainly taste the painful torment,

Verse 37:39

وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ اِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Wa-maa tujzawna ʹillaa maa- kuñtum taʻmaloon;

and will only be rewarded for what you used to do.

Verse 37:40

اِلَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الْمُخْلَصِیْنَ ۟

ʹIllaa ʻibaadal laahil mukhlaṣeen.

But not the chosen servants of Allah.

Verse 37:41

اُولٰٓىِٕكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُوْمٌ ۟ۙ

ʹUlaaaʹika lahum Rizq̣um maʻloom,

They will have a known provision:

Verse 37:42

فَوَاكِهُ ۚ وَهُمْ مُّكْرَمُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Fawaakihu wa-hum mukramoon,

fruits ˹of every type˺. And they will be honoured

Verse 37:43

فِیْ جَنّٰتِ النَّعِیْمِ ۟ۙ

Fee Jannaatin Naʻeem,

in the Gardens of Bliss,

Verse 37:44

عَلٰی سُرُرٍ مُّتَقٰبِلِیْنَ ۟

ʻAlaa sururim mutaq̣aabileen:

facing each other on thrones.

Verse 37:45

یُطَافُ عَلَیْهِمْ بِكَاْسٍ مِّنْ مَّعِیْنٍ ۟ۙ

Yuṭaafu ʻalayhim̃ bikaʹsim mim maʻeen,

A drink ˹of pure wine˺ will be passed around to them from a flowing stream:

Verse 37:46

بَیْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشّٰرِبِیْنَ ۟ۚۖ

Bayḍaaaʹa laẓẓatillish shaaribeen,

crystal-white, delicious to drink.

Verse 37:47

لَا فِیْهَا غَوْلٌ وَّلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا یُنْزَفُوْنَ ۟

Laa- feehaa g̣awluñw walaa hum ʻanhaa yuñzafoon.

It will neither harm ˹them˺, nor will they be intoxicated by it.

Verse 37:48

وَعِنْدَهُمْ قٰصِرٰتُ الطَّرْفِ عِیْنٌ ۟ۙ

Wa-ʻiñdahum q̣aaṣiraatuṭ ṭarfi ʻeen,

And with them will be maidens of modest gaze and gorgeous eyes,

Verse 37:49

كَاَنَّهُنَّ بَیْضٌ مَّكْنُوْنٌ ۟

Kaʹannahunna bayḍum maknoon.

as if they were pristine pearls.

Verse 37:50

فَاَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلٰی بَعْضٍ یَّتَسَآءَلُوْنَ ۟

Faʹaq̣bala baʻḍuhum ʻalaa baʻḍiñy yatasaaaʹaloon.

Then they will turn to one another inquisitively.

Verse 37:51

قَالَ قَآىِٕلٌ مِّنْهُمْ اِنِّیْ كَانَ لِیْ قَرِیْنٌ ۟ۙ

Q̣aala q̣aaaʹilum minhum ʹinnee kaana lee q̣areen,

One of them will say, “I once had a companion ˹in the world˺

Verse 37:52

یَّقُوْلُ اَىِٕنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُصَدِّقِیْنَ ۟

Yaq̣oolu ʹa-ʹinnaka laminal muṣaddiq̣een?

who used to ask ˹me˺, ‘Do you actually believe ˹in resurrection˺?

Verse 37:53

ءَاِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَّعِظَامًا ءَاِنَّا لَمَدِیْنُوْنَ ۟

ʹA-ʹiẓaa mitnaa wa-kunnaa turaabañw waʻiz̤̣aaman ʹa-ʹinnaa lamadeenoon?

When we are dead and reduced to dust and bones, will we really be brought to judgment?’”

Verse 37:54

قَالَ هَلْ اَنْتُمْ مُّطَّلِعُوْنَ ۟

Q̣aala hal ʹañtum muṭṭaliʻoon?

He will ˹then˺ ask, “Would you care to see ˹his fate˺?”

Verse 37:55

فَاطَّلَعَ فَرَاٰهُ فِیْ سَوَآءِ الْجَحِیْمِ ۟

Faṭṭalaʻa faraʹaahu fee sawaaaʹil Jaḥeem.

Then he ˹and the others˺ will look and spot him in the midst of the Hellfire.

Verse 37:56

قَالَ تَاللّٰهِ اِنْ كِدْتَّ لَتُرْدِیْنِ ۟ۙ

Q̣aala tallaahi ʹiñ kitta laturdeen!

He will ˹then˺ say, “By Allah! You nearly ruined me.

Verse 37:57

وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّیْ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُحْضَرِیْنَ ۟

Wa-lawlaa Niʻmatu Rabbee lakuñtu minal muḥḍareen!

Had it not been for the grace of my Lord, I ˹too˺ would have certainly been among those brought ˹to Hell˺.”

Verse 37:58

اَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَیِّتِیْنَ ۟ۙ

ʹAfamaa naḥnu bimayyiteen,

˹Then he will ask his fellow believers,˺ “Can you imagine that we will never die,

Verse 37:59

اِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا الْاُوْلٰی وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِیْنَ ۟

ʹIllaa mawtatanal ʹoolaa wa-maa naḥnu bimuʻaẓẓabeen?

except our first death, nor be punished ˹like the others˺?”

Verse 37:60

اِنَّ هٰذَا لَهُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِیْمُ ۟

ʹInna haaẓaa lahuwal fawzul ʻaz̤̣eem!

This is truly the ultimate triumph.

Verse 37:61

لِمِثْلِ هٰذَا فَلْیَعْمَلِ الْعٰمِلُوْنَ ۟

Limis̤li haaẓaa falyaʻmalil ʻaamiloon.

For such ˹honour˺ all should strive.

Verse 37:62

اَذٰلِكَ خَیْرٌ نُّزُلًا اَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّوْمِ ۟

ʹAẓaalika khayrun nuzulan ʹam Shajaratuz Zaq̣q̣oom?

Is this ˹bliss˺ a better accommodation or the tree of Zaqqûm?

Verse 37:63

اِنَّا جَعَلْنٰهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظّٰلِمِیْنَ ۟

ʹInnaa jaʻalnaahaa fitnatal liz̤̣z̤̣aalimeen.

We have surely made it a test for the wrongdoers.

Verse 37:64

اِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِیْۤ اَصْلِ الْجَحِیْمِ ۟ۙ

ʹInnahaa shajaratuñ takhruju feee ʹaṣlil Jaḥeem:

Indeed, it is a tree that grows in the depths of Hell,

Verse 37:65

طَلْعُهَا كَاَنَّهٗ رُءُوْسُ الشَّیٰطِیْنِ ۟

Ṭalʻuhaa kaʹannahoo ruʹoosush shayaaṭeen:

bearing fruit like devils’ heads.

Verse 37:66

فَاِنَّهُمْ لَاٰكِلُوْنَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔوْنَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُوْنَ ۟ؕ

Faʹinnahum laʹaakiloona minhaa famaaliʹoona minhal buṭoon.

The evildoers will certainly ˹be left to˺ eat from it, filling up their bellies with it.

Verse 37:67

ثُمَّ اِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَیْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِیْمٍ ۟ۚ

S̤umma ʹinna lahum ʻalayhaa lashawbam min ḥameem.

Then on top of that they will be given a blend of boiling drink.

Verse 37:68

ثُمَّ اِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَاۡاِلَی الْجَحِیْمِ ۟

S̤umma ʹinna marjiʻahum laʹilal Jaḥeem.

Then they will ultimately return to ˹their place in˺ Hell.

Verse 37:69

اِنَّهُمْ اَلْفَوْا اٰبَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّیْنَ ۟ۙ

ʹInnahum ʹalfaw ʹaabaaaʹahum ḍaaalleen;

Indeed, they found their forefathers astray,

Verse 37:70

فَهُمْ عَلٰۤی اٰثٰرِهِمْ یُهْرَعُوْنَ ۟

Fahum ʻalaaa ʹaas̤aarihim yuhraʻoon!

so they rushed in their footsteps!

Verse 37:71

وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ اَكْثَرُ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ ۟ۙ

Wa-laq̣ad ḍalla q̣ablahum ʹaks̤arul ʹawwaleen;―

And surely most of the earlier generations had strayed before them,

Verse 37:72

وَلَقَدْ اَرْسَلْنَا فِیْهِمْ مُّنْذِرِیْنَ ۟

Wa-laq̣ad ʹarsalnaa feehim muñẓireen;―

although We had certainly sent warners among them.

Verse 37:73

فَانْظُرْ كَیْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنْذَرِیْنَ ۟ۙ

Fañz̤̣ur kayfa kaana ʻAaq̣ibatul muñẓareen,―

See then what was the end of those who had been warned.

Verse 37:74

اِلَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الْمُخْلَصِیْنَ ۟۠

ʹIllaa ʻibaadal laahil mukhlaṣeen.

But not the chosen servants of Allah.

Verse 37:75

وَلَقَدْ نَادٰىنَا نُوْحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُجِیْبُوْنَ ۟ؗۖ

Wa-laq̣ad naadaanaa Nooḥuñ falaniʻmal Mujeeboon,

Indeed, Noah cried out to Us, and how excellent are We in responding!

Verse 37:76

وَنَجَّیْنٰهُ وَاَهْلَهٗ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِیْمِ ۟ؗۖ

Wa-najjaynaahu wa-ʹahlahoo minal Karbil ʻAz̤̣eem,

We delivered him and his family from the great distress,

Verse 37:77

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّیَّتَهٗ هُمُ الْبٰقِیْنَ ۟ؗۖ

Wa-jaʻalnaa ẓurriyyatahoo humul baaq̣een.

and made his descendants the sole survivors.

Verse 37:78

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَیْهِ فِی الْاٰخِرِیْنَ ۟ؗۖ

Wa-taraknaa ʻalayhi fil ʹaakhireen:

And We blessed him ˹with honourable mention˺ among later generations:

Verse 37:79

سَلٰمٌ عَلٰی نُوْحٍ فِی الْعٰلَمِیْنَ ۟

Salaamun ʻalaa Nooḥiñ fil ʻaalameen!

“Peace be upon Noah among all peoples.”

Verse 37:80

اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِی الْمُحْسِنِیْنَ ۟

ʹInnaa kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers.

Verse 37:81

اِنَّهٗ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ ۟

ʹInnahoo min ʻibaadinal Muʹmineen.

˹For˺ he was truly one of Our faithful servants.

Verse 37:82

ثُمَّ اَغْرَقْنَا الْاٰخَرِیْنَ ۟

S̤umma ʹag̣raq̣nal ʹaakhareen.

Then We drowned the others.

Verse 37:83

وَاِنَّ مِنْ شِیْعَتِهٖ لَاِبْرٰهِیْمَ ۟ۘ

Wa-ʹinna miñ Sheeʻatihee laʹIbraaheem.

And indeed, one of those who followed his way was Abraham.

Verse 37:84

اِذْ جَآءَ رَبَّهٗ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِیْمٍ ۟

ʹIẓ jaaaʹa Rabbahoo biq̣albiñ saleem.

˹Remember˺ when he came to his Lord with a pure heart,

Verse 37:85

اِذْ قَالَ لِاَبِیْهِ وَقَوْمِهٖ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُوْنَ ۟ۚ

ʹIẓ q̣aala liʹabeehi wa-q̣awmihee maaẓaa taʻbudoon?

and said to his father and his people, “What are you worshipping?

Verse 37:86

اَىِٕفْكًا اٰلِهَةً دُوْنَ اللّٰهِ تُرِیْدُوْنَ ۟ؕ

ʹAʹifkan ʹaalihatañ doonal laahi tureedoon?

Is it false gods that you desire instead of Allah?

Verse 37:87

فَمَا ظَنُّكُمْ بِرَبِّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَ ۟

Famaa z̤̣annukum̃ bi-Rabbil ʻAalameen?

What then do you expect from the Lord of all worlds?”

Verse 37:88

فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِی النُّجُوْمِ ۟ۙ

Fanaz̤̣ara naz̤̣ratañ fin Nujoom,

He later looked up to the stars ˹in contemplation˺,

Verse 37:89

فَقَالَ اِنِّیْ سَقِیْمٌ ۟

Faq̣aala ʹinnee saq̣eem!

then said, “I am really sick.”

Verse 37:90

فَتَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِیْنَ ۟

Fatawallaw ʻanhu mudbireen.

So they turned their backs on him and went away.

Verse 37:91

فَرَاغَ اِلٰۤی اٰلِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ اَلَا تَاْكُلُوْنَ ۟ۚ

Faraag̣a ʹilaaa ʹaalihatihim faq̣aala ʹalaa taʹkuloon?...

Then he ˹stealthily˺ advanced towards their gods, and said ˹mockingly˺, “Will you not eat ˹your offerings˺?

Verse 37:92

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنْطِقُوْنَ ۟

Maa- lakum laa- tañṭiq̣oon?

What is wrong with you that you cannot speak?”

Verse 37:93

فَرَاغَ عَلَیْهِمْ ضَرْبًا بِالْیَمِیْنِ ۟

Faraag̣a ʻalayhim ḍarbam bilyameen.

Then he swiftly turned on them, striking ˹them˺ with his right hand.

Verse 37:94

فَاَقْبَلُوْۤا اِلَیْهِ یَزِفُّوْنَ ۟

Faʹaq̣balooo ʹilayhi yaziffoon.

Later, his people came rushing towards him ˹furiously˺.

Verse 37:95

قَالَ اَتَعْبُدُوْنَ مَا تَنْحِتُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Q̣aala ʹataʻbudoona maa- tanḥitoon?

He argued, “How can you worship what you carve ˹with your own hands˺,

Verse 37:96

وَاللّٰهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ ۟

Wallaahu khalaq̣akum wa-maa taʻmaloon!

when it is Allah Who created you and whatever you do?”

Verse 37:97

قَالُوا ابْنُوْا لَهٗ بُنْیَانًا فَاَلْقُوْهُ فِی الْجَحِیْمِ ۟

Q̣aalub noo lahoo bun-yaanañ faʹalq̣oohu fil Jaḥeem!

They said ˹to one another˺, “Build him a furnace and cast him into the blazing fire.”

Verse 37:98

فَاَرَادُوْا بِهٖ كَیْدًا فَجَعَلْنٰهُمُ الْاَسْفَلِیْنَ ۟

Faʹaraadoo bihee kaydañ fajaʻalnaahumul ʹasfaleen!

And so they sought to harm him, but We made them inferior.

Verse 37:99

وَقَالَ اِنِّیْ ذَاهِبٌ اِلٰی رَبِّیْ سَیَهْدِیْنِ ۟

Wa-q̣aala ʹinnee ẓaahibun ʹilaa Rabbee sayahdeen!

He later said, “I am leaving ˹in obedience˺ to my Lord. He will guide me.

Verse 37:100

رَبِّ هَبْ لِیْ مِنَ الصّٰلِحِیْنَ ۟

Rabbi hab lee minaṣ Ṣaaliḥeen!

My Lord! Bless me with righteous offspring.”

Verse 37:101

فَبَشَّرْنٰهُ بِغُلٰمٍ حَلِیْمٍ ۟

Fabashsharnaahu big̣ulaamin ḥaleem.

So We gave him good news of a forbearing son.

Verse 37:102

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ السَّعْیَ قَالَ یٰبُنَیَّ اِنِّیْۤ اَرٰی فِی الْمَنَامِ اَنِّیْۤ اَذْبَحُكَ فَانْظُرْ مَاذَا تَرٰی ؕ قَالَ یٰۤاَبَتِ افْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ؗ سَتَجِدُنِیْۤ اِنْ شَآءَ اللّٰهُ مِنَ الصّٰبِرِیْنَ ۟

Falammaa balag̣a maʻahus saʻya q̣aala yaa-bunayya ʹinneee ʹaraa fil manaami ʹanneee ʹaẓbaḥuka fañz̤̣ur maaẓaa taraa! Q̣aala yaaaʹabatif ʻal maa- tuʹmar: satajiduneee ʹiñ shaaa ʹallaahu minaṣ Ṣaabireen!

Then when the boy reached the age to work with him, Abraham said, “O my dear son! I have seen in a dream that I ˹must˺ sacrifice you. So tell me what you think.” He replied, “O my dear father! Do as you are commanded. Allah willing, you will find me steadfast.”

Verse 37:103

فَلَمَّاۤ اَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهٗ لِلْجَبِیْنِ ۟ۚ

Falammaaa ʹaslamaa wa-tallahoo liljabeen,

Then when they submitted ˹to Allah’s Will˺, and Abraham laid him on the side of his forehead ˹for sacrifice˺,

Verse 37:104

وَنَادَیْنٰهُ اَنْ یّٰۤاِبْرٰهِیْمُ ۟ۙ

Wa-naadaynaahu ʹañy YaaaʹIbraaheem!

We called out to him, “O Abraham!

Verse 37:105

قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ الرُّءْیَا ۚ اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِی الْمُحْسِنِیْنَ ۟

Q̣ad ṣaddaq̣tar ruʹyaa! ʹInnaa kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

You have already fulfilled the vision.” Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers.

Verse 37:106

اِنَّ هٰذَا لَهُوَ الْبَلٰٓؤُا الْمُبِیْنُ ۟

ʹInna haaẓaa lahuwal balaaaʹul mubeen.

That was truly a revealing test.

Verse 37:107

وَفَدَیْنٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِیْمٍ ۟

Wa-fadaynaahu biẓibḥin ʻaz̤̣eem:

And We ransomed his son with a great sacrifice,

Verse 37:108

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَیْهِ فِی الْاٰخِرِیْنَ ۟ۖ

Wa-taraknaa ʻalayhi fil ʹaakhireen:

and blessed Abraham ˹with honourable mention˺ among later generations:

Verse 37:109

سَلٰمٌ عَلٰۤی اِبْرٰهِیْمَ ۟

Salaamun ʻalaaa ʹIbraaheem!

“Peace be upon Abraham.”

Verse 37:110

كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِی الْمُحْسِنِیْنَ ۟

Kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

This is how We reward the good-doers.

Verse 37:111

اِنَّهٗ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ ۟

ʹInnahoo min ʻIbaadinal Muʹmineen.

He was truly one of Our faithful servants.

Verse 37:112

وَبَشَّرْنٰهُ بِاِسْحٰقَ نَبِیًّا مِّنَ الصّٰلِحِیْنَ ۟

Wa-bashsharnaahu biʹIsḥaaq̣a Nabiyyam minaṣ Ṣaaliḥeen.

We ˹later˺ gave him good news of Isaac—a prophet, and one of the righteous.

Verse 37:113

وَبٰرَكْنَا عَلَیْهِ وَعَلٰۤی اِسْحٰقَ ؕ وَمِنْ ذُرِّیَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَّظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهٖ مُبِیْنٌ ۟۠

Wa-baaraknaa ʻalayhi wa-ʻalaaa ʹIsḥaaq̣: wa-miñ ẓurriyyatihimaa muḥsinuñw waz̤̣aalimul linafsihee mubeen.

We blessed him and Isaac as well. Some of their descendants did good, while others clearly wronged themselves.

Verse 37:114

وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلٰی مُوْسٰی وَهٰرُوْنَ ۟ۚ

Wa-laq̣ad manannaa ʻalaa Moosaa wa-Haaroon.

And We certainly showed favour to Moses and Aaron,

Verse 37:115

وَنَجَّیْنٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِیْمِ ۟ۚ

Wa-najjaynaahumaa wa-q̣awmahumaa minal Karbil ʻAz̤̣eem;

and delivered them and their people from the great distress.

Verse 37:116

وَنَصَرْنٰهُمْ فَكَانُوْا هُمُ الْغٰلِبِیْنَ ۟ۚ

Wa-naṣarnaahum fakaanoo humul g̣aalibeen.

We helped them so it was they who prevailed.

Verse 37:117

وَاٰتَیْنٰهُمَا الْكِتٰبَ الْمُسْتَبِیْنَ ۟ۚ

Wa-ʹaataynaahumal kitaabal mustabeen;

We gave them the clear Scripture,

Verse 37:118

وَهَدَیْنٰهُمَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِیْمَ ۟ۚ

Wa-hadaynaahumaṣ Ṣiraaṭal Mustaq̣eem.

and guided them to the Straight Path.

Verse 37:119

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَیْهِمَا فِی الْاٰخِرِیْنَ ۟ۙ

Wa-taraknaa ʻalayhimaa fil ʹaakhireen:

And We blessed them ˹with honourable mention˺ among later generations:

Verse 37:120

سَلٰمٌ عَلٰی مُوْسٰی وَهٰرُوْنَ ۟

Salaamun ʻalaa Moosaa wa-Haroon!

“Peace be upon Moses and Aaron.”

Verse 37:121

اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِی الْمُحْسِنِیْنَ ۟

ʹInnaa kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers.

Verse 37:122

اِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ ۟

ʹInnahumaa min ʻibaadinal Muʹmineen.

They were truly ˹two˺ of Our faithful servants.

Verse 37:123

وَاِنَّ اِلْیَاسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِیْنَ ۟ؕ

Wa-ʹinna ʹIlyaasa laminal mursaleen.

And Elias was indeed one of the messengers.

Verse 37:124

اِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهٖۤ اَلَا تَتَّقُوْنَ ۟

ʹIẓ q̣aala liq̣awmiheee ʹalaa tattaq̣oon?

˹Remember˺ when he said to his people, “Will you not fear ˹Allah˺?

Verse 37:125

اَتَدْعُوْنَ بَعْلًا وَّتَذَرُوْنَ اَحْسَنَ الْخَالِقِیْنَ ۟ۙ

ʹAtadʻoona taẓaroona Baʻlañwwa ʹAḥsanal Khaaliq̣een,―

Do you call upon ˹the idol of˺ Ba’l and abandon the Best of Creators—

Verse 37:126

اللّٰهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ اٰبَآىِٕكُمُ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ ۟

ʹAllaaha Rabbakum wa-Rabba ʹaabaaaʹikumul ʹawwaleen?

Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?”

Verse 37:127

فَكَذَّبُوْهُ فَاِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Fakaẓẓaboohu faʹinnahum lamuḥḍaroon,―

But they rejected him, so they will certainly be brought ˹for punishment˺.

Verse 37:128

اِلَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الْمُخْلَصِیْنَ ۟

ʹIllaa ʻibaadal laahil mukhlaṣeen.

But not the chosen servants of Allah.

Verse 37:129

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَیْهِ فِی الْاٰخِرِیْنَ ۟ۙ

Wa-taraknaa ʻalayhi fil ʹaakhireen:

We blessed him ˹with honourable mention˺ among later generations:

Verse 37:130

سَلٰمٌ عَلٰۤی اِلْ یَاسِیْنَ ۟

Salaamun ʻalaaa ʹIlyaaseen!

“Peace be upon Elias.”

Verse 37:131

اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِی الْمُحْسِنِیْنَ ۟

ʹInnaa kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers.

Verse 37:132

اِنَّهٗ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ ۟

ʹInnahoo min ʻIbaadinal Muʹmineen.

He was truly one of Our faithful servants.

Verse 37:133

وَاِنَّ لُوْطًا لَّمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِیْنَ ۟ؕ

Wa-ʹinna Looṭal laminal mursaleen.

And Lot was indeed one of the messengers.

Verse 37:134

اِذْ نَجَّیْنٰهُ وَاَهْلَهٗۤ اَجْمَعِیْنَ ۟ۙ

ʹIẓ najjaynaahu wa-ʹahlahooo ʹajmaʻeen,

˹Remember˺ when We delivered him and all of his family,

Verse 37:135

اِلَّا عَجُوْزًا فِی الْغٰبِرِیْنَ ۟

ʹIllaa ʻajoozañ fil g̣aabireen:

except an old woman, who was one of the doomed.

Verse 37:136

ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا الْاٰخَرِیْنَ ۟

S̤umma dammarnal ʹaakhareen.

Then We ˹utterly˺ destroyed the rest.

Verse 37:137

وَاِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّوْنَ عَلَیْهِمْ مُّصْبِحِیْنَ ۟ۙ

Wa-ʹinnakum latamurroona ʻalayhim muṣbiḥeen―

You ˹Meccans˺ certainly pass by their ruins day

Verse 37:138

وَبِالَّیْلِ ؕ اَفَلَا تَعْقِلُوْنَ ۟۠

Wa-billayli ʹafalaa taʻq̣iloon?

and night. Will you not then understand?

Verse 37:139

وَاِنَّ یُوْنُسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِیْنَ ۟ؕ

Wa-ʹinna Yoonusa laminal mursaleen.

And Jonah was indeed one of the messengers.

Verse 37:140

اِذْ اَبَقَ اِلَی الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُوْنِ ۟ۙ

ʹIẓ ʹabaq̣a ʹilal fulkil mashḥoon.

˹Remember˺ when he fled to the overloaded ship.

Verse 37:141

فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ الْمُدْحَضِیْنَ ۟ۚ

Fasaahama fakaana minal mudḥaḍeen:

Then ˹to save it from sinking,˺ he drew straws ˹with other passengers˺. He lost ˹and was thrown overboard˺.

Verse 37:142

فَالْتَقَمَهُ الْحُوْتُ وَهُوَ مُلِیْمٌ ۟

Faltaq̣amahul Ḥootu wa-huwa muleem.

Then the whale engulfed him while he was blameworthy.

Verse 37:143

فَلَوْلَاۤ اَنَّهٗ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ ۟ۙ

Falawlaaa ʹannahoo kaana minal musabbiḥeen,

Had he not ˹constantly˺ glorified ˹Allah˺,

Verse 37:144

لَلَبِثَ فِیْ بَطْنِهٖۤ اِلٰی یَوْمِ یُبْعَثُوْنَ ۟ۚ

Lalabis̤a fee baṭniheee ʹilaa Yawmi yubʻas̤oon.

he would have certainly remained in its belly until the Day of Resurrection.

Verse 37:145

فَنَبَذْنٰهُ بِالْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِیْمٌ ۟ۚ

Fanabaẓnaahu bilʻaraaaʹi wa-huwa saq̣eem.

But We cast him onto the open ˹shore˺, ˹totally˺ worn out,

Verse 37:146

وَاَنْۢبَتْنَا عَلَیْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّنْ یَّقْطِیْنٍ ۟ۚ

Wa-ʹambatnaa ʻalayhi shajaratam miñy yaq̣ṭeen.

and caused a squash plant to grow over him.

Verse 37:147

وَاَرْسَلْنٰهُ اِلٰی مِائَةِ اَلْفٍ اَوْ یَزِیْدُوْنَ ۟ۚ

Wa-ʹarsalnaahu ʹilaa miʹati ʹalfin ʹaw yazeedoon.

We ˹later˺ sent him ˹back˺ to ˹his city of˺ at least one hundred thousand people,

Verse 37:148

فَاٰمَنُوْا فَمَتَّعْنٰهُمْ اِلٰی حِیْنٍ ۟ؕ

Faʹaamanoo famattaʻnaahum ʹilaa ḥeen.

who then believed ˹in him˺, so We allowed them enjoyment for a while.

Verse 37:149

فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ اَلِرَبِّكَ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ الْبَنُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Fastaftihim ʹa-li-Rabbikal banaatu wa-lahumul banoon?―

Ask them ˹O Prophet˺ if your Lord has daughters, while the pagans ˹prefer to˺ have sons.

Verse 37:150

اَمْ خَلَقْنَا الْمَلٰٓىِٕكَةَ اِنَاثًا وَّهُمْ شٰهِدُوْنَ ۟

ʹAm khalaq̣nal malaaaʹikata ʹinaas̤añw Wahum shaahidoon?

Or ˹ask them˺ if We created the angels as females right before their eyes.

Verse 37:151

اَلَاۤ اِنَّهُمْ مِّنْ اِفْكِهِمْ لَیَقُوْلُوْنَ ۟ۙ

ʹAlaaa ʹinnahum min ʹifkihim layaq̣ooloon:

Indeed, it is one of their ˹outrageous˺ fabrications to say,

Verse 37:152

وَلَدَ اللّٰهُ ۙ وَاِنَّهُمْ لَكٰذِبُوْنَ ۟

Waladal laahu wa-ʹinnahum lakaaẓiboon!

“Allah has children.” They are simply liars.

Verse 37:153

اَصْطَفَی الْبَنَاتِ عَلَی الْبَنِیْنَ ۟ؕ

ʹAṣṭafal banaati ʻalal baneen?

Has He chosen daughters over sons?

Verse 37:154

مَا لَكُمْ ۫ كَیْفَ تَحْكُمُوْنَ ۟

Maa- lakum Kayfa taḥkumoon?

What is the matter with you? How do you judge?

Verse 37:155

اَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُوْنَ ۟ۚ

ʹAfalaa taẓakkaroon?

Will you not then be mindful?

Verse 37:156

اَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطٰنٌ مُّبِیْنٌ ۟ۙ

ʹAm lakum sulṭaanum mubeen?

Or do you have ˹any˺ compelling proof?

Verse 37:157

فَاْتُوْا بِكِتٰبِكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِیْنَ ۟

Faʹtoo bi-Kitaabikum ʹiñ kuñtum ṣaadiq̣een!

Then bring ˹us˺ your scripture, if what you say is true!

Verse 37:158

وَجَعَلُوْا بَیْنَهٗ وَبَیْنَ الْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا ؕ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ الْجِنَّةُ اِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Wa-jaʻaloo baynahoo wa-baynal Jinnati nasabaa: wa-laq̣ad ʻalimatil Jinnatu ʹinnahum lamuḥḍaroon!

They have also established a ˹marital˺ relationship between Him and the jinn. Yet the jinn ˹themselves˺ know well that such people will certainly be brought ˹for punishment˺.

Verse 37:159

سُبْحٰنَ اللّٰهِ عَمَّا یَصِفُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Subḥaanal laahi ʻammaa yaṣifoon!

Glorified is Allah far above what they claim!

Verse 37:160

اِلَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الْمُخْلَصِیْنَ ۟

ʹIllaa ʻIbaadal laahil mukhlaṣeen.

But not the chosen servants of Allah.

Verse 37:161

فَاِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Faʹinnakum wa-maa taʻbudoon―

Surely you ˹pagans˺ and whatever ˹idols˺ you worship

Verse 37:162

مَاۤ اَنْتُمْ عَلَیْهِ بِفٰتِنِیْنَ ۟ۙ

Maaa ʹañtum ʻalayhi bifaatineen,

can never lure ˹anyone˺ away from Him

Verse 37:163

اِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ الْجَحِیْمِ ۟

ʹIllaa man huwa ṣaalil Jaḥeem!

except those ˹destined˺ to burn in Hell.

Verse 37:164

وَمَا مِنَّاۤ اِلَّا لَهٗ مَقَامٌ مَّعْلُوْمٌ ۟ۙ

Wa-maa minnaaa ʹillaa lahoo maq̣aamum maʻloom;

˹The angels respond,˺ “There is not one of us without an assigned station ˹of worship˺.

Verse 37:165

وَّاِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الصَّآفُّوْنَ ۟ۚ

Wa-ʹinnaa lanaḥnuṣ ṣaaaffoon;

We are indeed the ones lined up in ranks ˹for Allah˺.

Verse 37:166

وَاِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الْمُسَبِّحُوْنَ ۟

Wa-ʹinnaa lanaḥnul musabbiḥoon!

And we are indeed the ones ˹constantly˺ glorifying ˹His praise˺.”

Verse 37:167

وَاِنْ كَانُوْا لَیَقُوْلُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Wa-ʹiñ kaanoo layaq̣ooloon,

They certainly used to say,

Verse 37:168

لَوْ اَنَّ عِنْدَنَا ذِكْرًا مِّنَ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ ۟ۙ

Law ʹanna ʻiñdanaa Ẓikram minal ʹawwaleen,

“If only we had a Reminder like ˹those of˺ earlier peoples,

Verse 37:169

لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ الْمُخْلَصِیْنَ ۟

Lakunnaa ʻIbaadal laahil mukhlaṣeen!

we would have truly been Allah’s devoted servants.”

Verse 37:170

فَكَفَرُوْا بِهٖ فَسَوْفَ یَعْلَمُوْنَ ۟

Fakafaroo bihee fasawfa yaʻlamoon!

But ˹now˺ they reject it, so they will soon know.

Verse 37:171

وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا الْمُرْسَلِیْنَ ۟ۚۖ

Wa-laq̣ad sabaq̣at Kalimatunaa liʻIbaadinal mursaleen;

Our Word has already gone forth to Our servants, the messengers,

Verse 37:172

اِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ الْمَنْصُوْرُوْنَ ۪۟

ʹInnahum lahumul mañṣooroon,

that they would surely be helped,

Verse 37:173

وَاِنَّ جُنْدَنَا لَهُمُ الْغٰلِبُوْنَ ۟

Wa-ʹinna juñdanaa lahumul g̣aaliboon.

and that Our forces will certainly prevail.

Verse 37:174

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتّٰی حِیْنٍ ۟ۙ

Fatawalla ʻanhum ḥattaa ḥeen,

So turn away from the deniers for a while ˹O Prophet˺.

Verse 37:175

وَّاَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ یُبْصِرُوْنَ ۟

Wa-ʹabṣirhum fasawfa yubṣiroon!

You will see ˹what will happen to˺ them, and they too will see!

Verse 37:176

اَفَبِعَذَابِنَا یَسْتَعْجِلُوْنَ ۟

ʹAfabiʻaẓaabinaa yastaʻjiloon?

Do they ˹really˺ wish to hasten Our punishment?

Verse 37:177

فَاِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ الْمُنْذَرِیْنَ ۟

Faʹiẓaa nazala bisaaḥatihim fasaaaʹa ṣabaaḥul muñẓareen!

Yet when it descends upon them: how evil will that morning be for those who had been warned!

Verse 37:178

وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتّٰی حِیْنٍ ۟ۙ

Wa-tawalla ʻanhum ḥattaa ḥeen,

And turn away from them for a while.

Verse 37:179

وَّاَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ یُبْصِرُوْنَ ۟

Wa-ʹabṣir fasawfa yubṣiroon!

You will see, and they too will see!

Verse 37:180

سُبْحٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ الْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا یَصِفُوْنَ ۟ۚ

Subḥaana Rabbika Rabbil ʻIzzati ʻammaa yaṣifoon!

Glorified is your Lord—the Lord of Honour and Power—above what they claim!

Verse 37:181

وَسَلٰمٌ عَلَی الْمُرْسَلِیْنَ ۟ۚ

Wa-Salaamun ʻalal mursaleen!

Peace be upon the messengers.

Verse 37:182

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَ ۟۠

Wal-Ḥamdu lillaahi Rabbil ʻAalameen.

And praise be to Allah—Lord of all worlds.
