Seeking Refuge from Shirk

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ

Transliteration

Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika an ushrika bika wa anā aʿlam, wa astaghfiruka limā lā aʿlam.

Translation

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from associating anything with You knowingly, and I ask Your forgiveness for what I do unknowingly.

Background

This supplication is connected to the prophetic wording reported in Musnad Ahmad 3731. It teaches the believer to turn to Allah with humility and awareness of the need expressed in the dua.

Authenticity: Hasan / accepted

This dua is reported in Al-Adab al-Mufrad and has been accepted by a number of later hadith scholars due to supporting reports. It is suitable as a protection dua against hidden and open shirk. Caution: This dua should be paired with learning tawḥīd and avoiding shirk in belief and action. It is not a substitute for correcting beliefs, habits, or practices that may contradict pure worship of Allah.
