Background & benefit
Asma bint Umays narrated that the Prophet ﷺ taught these words to be said in sadness or distress. The dua is short but powerful because it returns the heart to tawhid and declares that Allah alone is the Lord without partner.
For sadness, distress and emotional pressure, helping the believer return to the safety of tawhid.
Recite when sad, distressed, emotionally overwhelmed, or when you need to renew reliance on Allah.
Source & authenticity

Authenticity: Hasan / accepted
This short distress dua is reported from Asmā’ bint ʿUmays and is commonly cited by scholars of adhkar. Because there is some discussion around supporting routes, label it as accepted/hasan rather than overclaiming a stronger grade. Caution: Present this as one established dua for distress among several duas. Do not imply it is the only formula for hardship or that it replaces seeking practical help.
