Translation by Sahih International

  1. Surah Al-FurqanBegins here at 25:21

  2. 25:21

Waq̣aalal laẓeena laa- yarjoona Liq̣aaaʹanaa Law-laaa ʹuñzila ʻalaynal malaaaʹikatu ʹaw naraa Rabbanaa? Laq̣adis takbaroo feee ʹañfusihim wa-ʻataw ʻutuwwañ kabeeraa!

And those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, "Why were not angels sent down to us, or [why] do we [not] see our Lord?" They have certainly become arrogant within themselves and [become] insolent with great insolence.

  3. 25:22

Yawma yarawnal malaaaʹikata laa- bushraa Yawmaʹiẓil lil-mujrimeena wa-yaq̣ooloona ḥijram maḥjooraa!

The day they see the angels - no good tidings will there be that day for the criminals, and [the angels] will say, "Prevented and inaccessible."

  4. 25:23

Wa-q̣adimnaaa ʹilaa maa- ʻamiloo min ʻamaliñ fajaʻalnaahu habaaaʹam mañs̤ooraa.

And We will approach [i.e., regard] what they have done of deeds and make them as dust dispersed.

  5. 25:24

ʹAṣḥaabul Jannati Yawmaʹiẓin khayrum mustaq̣arrañw waʹaḥsanu maq̣eelaa.

The companions of Paradise, that Day, are [in] a better settlement and better resting place.

  6. 25:25

    Wa-Yawma tashaq̣q̣aq̣us samaaaʹu bilg̣amaami wa-nuzzilal malaaaʹikatu tañzeelaa,

And [mention] the Day when the heaven will split open with [emerging] clouds, and the angels will be sent down in successive descent.

  7. 25:26

ʹAlmulku Yawmaʹiẓinil ḥaq̣q̣u lir-Raḥmaan: wa-kaana Yawman ʻalal kaafireena ʻaseeraa.

True sovereignty, that Day, is for the Most Merciful. And it will be upon the disbelievers a difficult Day.

  8. 25:27

    Wa-Yawma yaʻaḍḍuz̤̣ z̤̣aalimu ʻalaa yadayhi yaq̣oolu yaa-laytanit takhaẓtu maʻar Rasooli sabeelaa!

And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, "Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way.

  9. 25:28

Yaa-waylataa laytanee lam ʹattakhiẓ fulaanan khaleelaa!

Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend.

  10. 25:29

He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter."

  11. 25:30

    Wa-q̣aalar Rasoolu yaa-Rabbi ʹinna q̣awmit takhaẓoo haaẓal Q̣urʹaana mahjooraa.

And the Messenger has said, "O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur’ān as [a thing] abandoned."

  12. 25:31

Wa-kaẓaalika jaʻalnaa likulli nabiyyin ʻaduwwam minal mujrimeen: wa-kafaa bi-Rabbika Haadiyañw Wa-Naṣeeraa.

And thus have We made for every prophet an enemy from among the criminals. But sufficient is your Lord as a guide and a helper.

  13. 25:32

Wa-q̣aalal laẓeena kafaroo law-laa nuzzila ʻalayhil Q̣urʹaanu jumlatañw Waaḥidah? Kaẓaalika linus̤abbita bihee fuʹaadaka wa-rattalnaahu tarteelaa.

And those who disbelieve say, "Why was the Qur’ān not revealed to him all at once?" Thus [it is] that We may strengthen thereby your heart. And We have spaced it distinctly.

  14. 25:33

    Wa-laa yaʹtoonaka bimas̤alin ʹillaa jiʹnaaka bil-Ḥaq̣q̣i wa-ʹaḥsana tafseeraa.

And they do not come to you with an example [i.e., argument] except that We bring you the truth and the best explanation.

  15. 25:34

ʹAllaẓeena yuḥsharoona ʻalaa wujoohihim ʹilaa Jahannama ʹulaaaʹika sharrum makanañw waʹaḍallu Sabeelaa.

The ones who are gathered on their faces to Hell - those are the worst in position and farthest astray in [their] way.

  16. 25:35

    وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَجَعَلْنَا مَعَهُۥٓ أَخَاهُ هَـٰرُونَ وَزِيرًا

    Wa-laq̣ad ʹaataynaa Moosal Kitaaba wa-jaʻalnaa maʻahooo ʹakhaahu Haaroona Wazeeraa;

And We had certainly given Moses the Scripture and appointed with him his brother Aaron as an assistant.

  17. 25:36

Faq̣ulnaẓ habaaa ʹilal q̣awmil laẓeena kaẓẓaboo biʹAayaatinaa: fadammarnaahum tadmeeraa.

And We said, "Go both of you to the people who have denied Our signs." Then We destroyed them with [complete] destruction.

  18. 25:37

    وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ لَّمَّا كَذَّبُوا۟ ٱلرُّسُلَ أَغْرَقْنَـٰهُمْ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ لِلنَّاسِ ءَايَةً ۖ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

    Wa-q̣awma Nooḥil lammaa kaẓẓabur rusula ʹag̣raq̣naahum wa-jaʻalnaahum linnaasi ʹAayah; wa-ʹaʻtadnaa liz̤̣z̤̣aalimeena ʻAẓaaban ʹaleemaa;

And the people of Noah - when they denied the messengers, We drowned them, and We made them for mankind a sign. And We have prepared for the wrongdoers a painful punishment.

  19. 25:38

    Wa-ʻAadañw Wa-S̤amooda wa-ʹAṣḥaabar Rassi wa-q̣uroonam bayna ẓaalika kas̤eeraa.

And [We destroyed] ʿAad and Thamūd and the companions of the well and many generations between them.

  20. 25:39

    Wa-kullañ ḍarabnaa lahul ʹams̤aala wa-kullañ tabbarnaa tatbeeraa.

And for each We presented examples [as warnings], and each We destroyed with [total] destruction.

  21. 25:40

Wa-laq̣ad ʹataw ʻalal q̣aryatil lateee ʹumṭirat maṭaras sawʹ: ʹafalam yakoonoo yarawnahaa? Bal kaanoo laa- yarjoona Nushooraa.

And they have already come upon the town which was showered with a rain of evil [i.e., stones]. So have they not seen it? But they are not expecting resurrection.

  22. 25:41

Wa-ʹiẓaa raʹawka ʹiñy yattakhiẓoonaka illaa huzuwaa:˹ ʹahaaẓal laẓee baʻas̤al laahu rasoolaa?

And when they see you, [O Muḥammad], they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], "Is this the one whom Allāh has sent as a messenger?

  23. 25:42

ʹIñ kaada layuḍillunaa ʻan ʹaalihatinaa Law-laaa ʹañ ṣabarnaa ʻalayhaa!˺ Wa-sawfa yaʻlamoona ḥeena yarawnal ʻAẓaaba man ʹaḍallu Sabeelaa!

He almost would have misled us from our gods had we not been steadfast in [worship of] them." But they are going to know, when they see the punishment, who is farthest astray in [his] way.

  24. 25:43

ʹAraʹayta manit takhaẓa ʹilaahahoo hawaah? ʹA-faʹañta takoonu ʻalayhi wakeelaa?

Have you seen the one who takes as his god his own desire? Then would you be responsible for him?

  25. 25:44

ʹAm taḥsabu ʹanna ʹaks̤arahum yasmaʻoona ʹaw yaʻq̣iloon? ʹIn hum ʹillaa kal-ʹanʻaami bal hum ʹaḍallu Sabeelaa.

Or do you think that most of them hear or reason? They are not except like livestock. Rather, they are [even] more astray in [their] way.

  26. 25:45

    أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَيْفَ مَدَّ ٱلظِّلَّ وَلَوْ شَآءَ لَجَعَلَهُۥ سَاكِنًا ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَا ٱلشَّمْسَ عَلَيْهِ دَلِيلًا

    ʹAlam tara ʹilaa Rabbika kayfa maddaz̤̣- Z̤̣ill! Wa-law shaaaʹa lajaʻalahoo saakinaa! S̤umma jaʻalnash shamsa ʻalayhi daleelaa;

Have you not considered your Lord - how He extends the shadow, and if He willed, He could have made it stationary? Then We made the sun for it an indication.

  27. 25:46

    S̤umma q̣abaḍnaahu ʹilaynaa q̣abḍañy yaseeraa.

Then We [retract and] hold it with Us for a brief grasp.

  28. 25:47

Wa-Huwal laẓee jaʻala lakumul Layla libaasañw wan-Nawma subaatañw wajaʻalan Nahaara Nushooraa.

And it is He who has made the night for you as clothing and sleep [a means for] rest and has made the day a resurrection.

  29. 25:48

Wa-Huwal laẓeee ʹarsalar Riyaaḥa bushram bayna yaday Raḥmatih, wa-ʹañzalnaa minas samaaaʹi maaaʹañ ṭahooraa,

And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy [i.e., rainfall], and We send down from the sky pure water

  30. 25:49

Linuḥyiya bihee baldatam maytañw wanusq̣iyahoo mimmaa khalaq̣naaa ʹanʻaamañw Waʹanaasiyya kas̤eeraa.

That We may bring to life thereby a dead land and give it as drink to those We created of numerous livestock and men.

  31. 25:50

Wa-laq̣ad ṣarrafnaahu baynahum liyaẓẓakkaroo, faʹabaaa ʹaks̤arun naasi ʹillaa kufooraa.

And We have certainly distributed it among them that they might be reminded, but most of the people refuse except disbelief.

  32. 25:51

    Wa-law shiʹnaa labaʻas̤naa fee kulli q̣aryatin naẓeeraa.

And if We had willed, We could have sent into every city a warner.

  33. 25:52

Falaa tuṭiʻil kaafireena wa-jaahidhum̃ bihee jihaadañ kabeeraa.

So do not obey the disbelievers, and strive against them with it [i.e., the Qur’ān] a great striving.

  34. 25:53

Wa-Huwal laẓee marajal baḥrayni haaẓaa ʻaẓbuñ furaatuñw wahaaẓaa milḥun ʹujaaj; wa-jaʻala baynahumaa Barzakhañw Waḥijram maḥjooraa.

And it is He who has released [simultaneously] the two seas [i.e., bodies of water], one fresh and sweet and one salty and bitter, and He placed between them a barrier and prohibiting partition.

  35. 25:54

Wa-Huwal laẓee khalaq̣a minal maaaʹi basharañ fajaʻalahoo nasabañw waṣihraa: wa-kaana Rabbuka Q̣adeeraa.

And it is He who has created from water [i.e., semen] a human being and made him [a relative by] lineage and marriage. And ever is your Lord competent [concerning creation].

  36. 25:55

Wa-yaʻbudoona miñ doonil laahi maa laa- yañfaʻuhum wa-laa yaḍurruhum: wa-kaanal kaafiru ʻalaa Rabbihee z̤̣aheeraa!

But they worship rather than Allāh that which does not benefit them or harm them, and the disbeliever is ever, against his Lord, an assistant [to Satan].

  37. 25:56

    Wa-maaa ʹarsalnaaka ʹillaa mubashshirañw wanaẓeeraa.

And We have not sent you, [O Muḥammad], except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner.

  38. 25:57

Q̣ul maaa ʹasʹalukum ʻalayhi min ʹajrin ʹillaa mañ shaaaʹa ʹañy yattakhiẓa ʹilaa Rabbihee Sabeelaa.

Say, "I do not ask of you for it any payment - only that whoever wills might take to his Lord a way."

  39. 25:58

    وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱلْحَىِّ ٱلَّذِى لَا يَمُوتُ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِهِۦ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِهِۦ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرًا

    Wa-tawakkal ʻalal Ḥayyil laẓee laa- yamootu wa-sabbiḥ bi-Ḥamdih; wa-kafaa bihee biẓunoobi ʻibaadihee khabeeraa;

And rely upon the Ever-Living who does not die, and exalt [Allāh] with His praise. And sufficient is He to be, with the sins of His servants, [fully] Aware -

  40. 25:59

ʹAllaẓee khalaq̣as samaawaati wal-ʹarḍa wa-maa baynahumaa fee sittati ʹayyaamiñ s̤umma stawaa ʻalal ʻArsh, ʹAr-Raḥmaanu fasʹal bihee khabeeraa.

He who created the heavens and the earth and what is between them in six days and then established Himself above the Throne - the Most Merciful, so ask about Him one well informed [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)].

  41. 25:60

    Wa-ʹiẓaa q̣eela lahumus judoo lir-Raḥmaani q̣aaloo wa-mar Raḥmaan? ʹAnasjudu limaa taʹmurunaa wa-zaadahum nufooraa.

And when it is said to them, "Prostrate to the Most Merciful," they say, "And what is the Most Merciful? Should we prostrate to that which you order us?" And it increases them in aversion.

  42. 25:61

Tabaarakal laẓee jaʻala fis samaaaʹi Buroojañw Wajaʻala feehaa siraajañw waq̣amaram muneeraa!

Blessed is He who has placed in the sky great stars and placed therein a [burning] lamp and luminous moon.

  43. 25:62

Wa-Huwal laẓee jaʻalal layla wannahaara khilfatal liman ʹaraada ʹañy yaẓẓakkara aw ʹaraada shukooraa.

And it is He who has made the night and the day in succession for whoever desires to remember or desires gratitude.

  44. 25:63

Wa-ʻibaadur Raḥmaanil laẓeena yamshoona ʻalal ʹarḍi hawnañw waʹiẓaa khaaṭabahumul jaahiloona q̣aaloo ˹Salaamaa!˺

And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace,

  45. 25:64

    وَٱلَّذِينَ يَبِيتُونَ لِرَبِّهِمْ سُجَّدًا وَقِيَـٰمًا

    Wallaẓeena yabeetoona li-Rabbihim sujjadañw waq̣iyaamaa;

And those who spend [part of] the night to their Lord prostrating and standing [in prayer]

  46. 25:65

Wallaẓeena yaq̣ooloona Rabbanaṣ rif ʻannaa ʻAẓaaba Jahannama ʹinna ʻAẓaabahaa kaana g̣araamaa,

    And those who say, "Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering;

  47. 25:66

    ʹInnahaa saaaʹat mustaq̣arrañw wamuq̣aamaa.

Indeed, it is evil as a settlement and residence."

  48. 25:67

    Wallaẓeena ʹiẓaaa ʹañfaq̣oo lam yusrifoo wa-lam yaq̣turoo wa-kaana bayna ẓaalika q̣awaamaa.

And [they are] those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderate

  49. 25:68

Wallaẓeena laa- yadʻoona maʻal laahi ʹilaahan ʹaakhara wa-laa yaq̣tuloonan nafsal latee ḥarramal laahu ʹillaa bilḥaq̣q̣i wa-laa yaznoon; wa-mañy yafʻal ẓaalika yalq̣a ʹas̤aamaa,

And those who do not invoke with Allāh another deity or kill the soul which Allāh has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty.

  50. 25:69

Yuḍaaʻaf lahul ʻAẓaabu Yawmal Q̣iyaamati wa-yakhlud feehee muhaanaa,

Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated -

  51. 25:70

ʹIllaa mañ taaba wa-ʹaamana wa-ʻamila ʻamalañ ṣaaliḥañ faʹulaaaʹika yubaddilul laahu sayyiʹaatihim ḥasanaat: wa-kaanal laahu G̣afoorar Raḥeemaa.

Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allāh will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allāh Forgiving and Merciful.

  52. 25:71

Wa-mañ taaba wa-ʻamila ṣaaliḥañ faʹinnahoo yatoobu ʹilal laahi mataabaa.

And he who repents and does righteousness does indeed turn to Allāh with [accepted] repentance.

  53. 25:72

Wallaẓeena laa- yashhadoonaz zoora wa-ʹiẓaa marroo billag̣wi marroo kiraamaa.

And [they are] those who do not testify to falsehood, and when they pass near ill speech, they pass by with dignity.

  54. 25:73

Wallaẓeena ʹiẓaa ẓukkiroo biʹAayaati Rabbihim lam yakhirroo ʻalayhaa ṣummañw waʻumyaanaa.

And those who, when reminded of the verses of their Lord, do not fall upon them deaf and blind.

  55. 25:74

Wallaẓeena yaq̣ooloona Rabbanaa hab lanaa min ʹazwaajinaa wa-ẓurriyaatinaa q̣urrata ʹaʻyuniñw waj-ʻalnaa lil-Muttaq̣eena ʹImaamaa.

And those who say, "Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us a leader [i.e., example] for the righteous."

  56. 25:75

ʹUlaaaʹika yujzawnal g̣urfata bimaa ṣabaroo wa-yulaq̣q̣awna feehaa taḥiyyatañw wasalaamaa,

Those will be awarded the Chamber for what they patiently endured, and they will be received therein with greetings and [words of] peace,

  57. 25:76

    Khaalideena feehaa; ḥasunat mustaq̣arrañw wamuq̣aamaa!

Abiding eternally therein. Good is the settlement and residence.

  58. 25:77

Q̣ul maa- yaʻbaʹu bikum Rabbee Law-laa duʻaaaʹukum: faq̣ad kaẓẓabtum fasawfa yakoonu lizaamaa!

Say, "What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication?" For you [disbelievers] have denied, so it [i.e., your denial] is going to be adherent.

  59. Surah Ash-Shu'araBegins here at 26:1

  60. 26:1

    Ṭaa-Seeen-Meeem.

    Ṭā, Seen, Meem.

  61. 26:2

    Tilka ʹAayaatul Kitaabil mubeen.

These are the verses of the clear Book.

  62. 26:3

Perhaps, [O Muḥammad], you would kill yourself with grief that they will not be believers.

  63. 26:4

ʹIn nashaʹ nunazzil ʻalayhim minas samaaaʹi ʹAayatañ faz̤̣allat ʹaʻnaaq̣uhum lahaa khaaḍiʻeen.

If We willed, We could send down to them from the sky a sign for which their necks would remain humbled.

  64. 26:5

Wa-maa yaʹteehim miñ Ẓikrim minar Raḥmaani muḥdas̤in ʹillaa kaanoo ʻanhu muʻriḍeen.

And no mention [i.e., revelation] comes to them anew from the Most Merciful except that they turn away from it.

  65. 26:6

Faq̣ad kaẓẓaboo fasayaʹteehim ʹambaaaʹu maa- kaanoo bihee yastahziʹoon!

For they have already denied, but there will come to them the news of that which they used to ridicule.

  66. 26:7

ʹA-walam yaraw ʹilal ʹarḍi kam ʹambatnaa feehaa miñ kulli zawjiñ kareem?

Did they not look at the earth - how much We have produced therein from every noble kind?

  67. 26:8

ʹInna fee ẓaalika laʹAayah: wa-maa kaana ʹaks̤aruhum Muʹmineen.

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

  68. 26:9

    Wa-ʹinna Rabbaka la-Huwal ʻAzeezur Raḥeem.

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

  69. 26:10

Wa-ʹiẓ naadaa Rabbuka Moosaaa ʹaniʹ til q̣awmaz̤̣ z̤̣aalimeen,

And [mention] when your Lord called Moses, [saying], "Go to the wrongdoing people -

  70. 26:11

    Q̣awma Firʻawn: ʹalaa yattaq̣oon?

The people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Allāh?"

  71. 26:12

Q̣aala Rabbi ʹinneee ʹakhaafu ʹañy yukaẓẓiboon:

He said, "My Lord, indeed I fear that they will deny me

  72. 26:13

Wa-yaḍeeq̣u ṣadree wa-laa yañṭaliq̣u lisaanee faʹarsil ʹilaa Haaroon.

And that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron.

  73. 26:14

Wa-lahum ʻalayya ẓambuñ faʹakhaafu ʹañy yaq̣tuloon.

And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me."

  74. 26:15

Q̣aala kallaa! faẓhabaa biʹAayaatinaaa ʹinnaa maʻakum mustamiʻoon.

[Allāh] said, "No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening.

  75. 26:16

Faʹtiyaa Firʻawna faq̣oolaaa ʹinnaa Rasoolu Rabbil ʻaalameen,

Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds,

  76. 26:17

    ʹAn ʹarsil maʻanaa Baneee ʹIsraaaʹeel.

[Commanded to say], "Send with us the Children of Israel."'"

  77. 26:18

Q̣aala ʹalam nurabbika feenaa waleedañw walabis̤ta feenaa min ʻumurika sineen?

[Pharaoh] said, "Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life?

  78. 26:19

Wa-faʻalta faʻlatakal latee faʻalta wa-ʹañta minal kaafireen!

And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful."

  79. 26:20

Q̣aala faʻaltuhaaa ʹiẓañw Waʹana minaḍ ḍaaalleen.

[Moses] said, "I did it, then, while I was of those astray [i.e., ignorant].

  80. 26:21

Fafarartu miñkum lam-maa khiftukum fawahaba lee Rabbee ḥukmañw wajaʻalanee minal mursaleen.

So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me judgement [i.e., wisdom and prophethood] and appointed me [as one] of the messengers.

  81. 26:22

Wa-tilka niʻmatuñ tamunnuhaa ʻalayya ʹan ʻabbatta Baneee ʹIsraaaʹeel!

And is this a favor of which you remind me - that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?"

  82. 26:23

    Q̣aala Firʻawnu wa-maa Rabbul ʻaalameen?

Said Pharaoh, "And what is the Lord of the worlds?"

  83. 26:24

    Q̣aala Rabbus samaawaati wal-ʹarḍi wa-maa baynahumaa, ʹiñ kuñtum Mooq̣ineen.

[Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced."

  84. 26:25

    Q̣aala liman ḥawlahooo ʹalaa tastamiʻoon?

[Pharaoh] said to those around him, "Do you not hear?"

  85. 26:26

    Q̣aala Rabbukum wa-Rabbu ʹaabaaaʹikumul ʹawwaleen!

[Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers."

  86. 26:27

Q̣aala ʹinna rasoolakumul laẓeee ʹursila ʹilaykum lamajnoon!

[Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad."

  87. 26:28

    Q̣aala Rabbul mashriq̣i wal-mag̣ribi wa-maa baynahumaa! ʹiñ kuñtum taʻq̣iloon!

[Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason."

  88. 26:29

Q̣aala laʹinit takhaẓta ʹilaahan g̣ayree laʹajʻalannaka minal masjooneen!

[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned."

  89. 26:30

    Q̣aala ʹawalaw jiʹtuka bishayʹim mubeen?

[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you something [i.e., proof] manifest?"

  90. 26:31

Q̣aala faʹti biheee ʹiñ kuñta minaṣ ṣaadiq̣een!

[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful."

  91. 26:32

Faʹalq̣aa ʻaṣaahu faʹiẓaa hiya s̤uʻbaanum mubeen!

So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest.

  92. 26:33

Wa-nazaʻa yadahoo faʹiẓaa hiya bayḍaaaʹu linnaaz̤̣ireen!

And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers.

  93. 26:34

Q̣aala lilmalaʹi ḥawlahooo ʹinna haazaa lasaaḥirun ʻaleem:

[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician.

  94. 26:35

Yureedu ʹañy yukhrijakum min ʹarḍikum̃ bisiḥrihee famaaẓaa taʹmuroon?

He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?"

  95. 26:36

    Q̣aalooo ʹarjih wa-ʹakhaahu wabʻas̤ fil Madaaaʹini ḥaashireen―

They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers

  96. 26:37

    Yaʹtooka bikulli saḥ-ḥaarin ʻaleem.

Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician."

  97. 26:38

    Fajumiʻas saḥaratu limeeq̣aati Yawmim maʻloom,

So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day.

  98. 26:39

    Wa-q̣eela linnaasi hal ʹañtum mujtamiʻoon,

And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate

  99. 26:40

Laʻallanaa nattabiʻus saḥarata ʹiñ kaanoo humul g̣aalibeen?

That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?"

  100. 26:41

Falammaa jaaaʹas saḥaratu q̣aaloo li-Firʻawna ʹaʹinna lanaa laʹajran ʹiñ kunnaa naḥnul g̣aalibeen?

And when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, "Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant?"

  101. 26:42

    Q̣aala naʻam wa-ʹinnakum ʹiẓal laminal muq̣arrabeen.

He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]."

  102. 26:43

    Q̣aala lahum Moosaaa ʹalq̣oo maaa ʹañtum mulq̣oon!

Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw."

  103. 26:44

    Faʹalq̣aw ḥibaalahum wa-ʻiṣiyyahum wa-q̣aaloo biʻizzati Firʻawna ʹinnaa lanaḥnul g̣aaliboon!

So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant."

  104. 26:45

Faʹalq̣aa Moosaa ʻaṣaahu faʹiẓaa hiya talq̣afu maa- yaʹfikoon!

Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified.

  105. 26:46

    Faʹulq̣iyas saḥaratu saajideen.

So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allāh].

  106. 26:47

    Q̣aalooo ʹaamannaa bi-Rabbil ʻaalameen.

They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds,

  107. 26:48

    Rabbi Moosaa wa-Haaroon.

The Lord of Moses and Aaron."

  108. 26:49

Q̣aala ʹaamañtum lahoo q̣abla ʹan ʹaaẓana lakum? ʹInnahoo lakabeerukumul laẓee ʻallamakumus siḥr! Falasawfa taʻlamoon! Laʹuq̣aṭṭiʻanna ʹaydiyakum wa-ʹarjulakum min khilaafiñw walaʹuṣallibannakum ʹajmaʻeen!

[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him [i.e., Moses] before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all."

  109. 26:50

Q̣aaloo laa- ḍayra ʹinnaaa ʹilaa Rabbinaa muñq̣aliboon!

They said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return.

  110. 26:51

ʹInnaa naṭmaʻu ʹañy yag̣fira lanaa Rabbunaa khaṭaayaanaaa ʹañ kunnaaa ʹawwalal Muʹmineen!

Indeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers."

  111. 26:52

Wa-ʹawḥaynaaa ʹilaa Moosaaa ʹan ʹasri biʻibaadeee ʹinnakum muttabaʻoon.

And We inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants; indeed, you will be pursued."

  112. 26:53

    Faʹarsala Firʻawnu fil Madaaaʹini ḥaashireen.

Then Pharaoh sent among the cities gatherers

  113. 26:54

    ʹInna haaaʹulaaaʹi lashirẓimatuñ q̣aleeloon,

[And said], "Indeed, those are but a small band,

  114. 26:55

    وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَآئِظُونَ

    Wa-ʹinnahum lanaa lag̣aaaʹiz̤̣oon;

And indeed, they are enraging us,

  115. 26:56

    Wa-ʹinnaa lajameeʻun ḥaaẓiroon.

And indeed, we are a cautious society..."

  116. 26:57

    Faʹakhrajnaahum miñ jannaatiñw waʻuyoon,

So We removed them from gardens and springs

  117. 26:58

    وَكُنُوزٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ

    Wa-kunooziñw Wamaq̣aamiñ kareem;

And treasures and honorable station -

  118. 26:59

    Kaẓaalik: wa-ʹawras̤naahaa Baneee ʹIsraaaʹeel.

Thus. And We caused to inherit it the Children of Israel.

  119. 26:60

    Faʹatbaʻoohum mushriq̣een.

So they pursued them at sunrise.

  120. 26:61

Faalammaa taraaaʹal jamʻaani q̣aala ʹAṣḥaabu Moosaaa ʹinnaa lamudrakoon.

And when the two companies saw one another, the companions of Moses said, "Indeed, we are to be overtaken!"

  121. 26:62

Q̣aala kallaa! ʹInna maʻiya Rabbee sayahdeen!

[Moses] said, "No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me."

  122. 26:63

Faʹawḥaynaaa ʹilaa Moosaaa ʹaniḍ rib biʻaṣaakal baḥr. Fañfalaq̣a fakaana kullu firq̣iñ kaṭṭawdil ʻaz̤̣eem.

Then We inspired to Moses, "Strike with your staff the sea," and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain.

  123. 26:64

    Wa-ʹazlafnaa s̤ammal ʹaakhareen.

And We advanced thereto the others [i.e., the pursuers].

  124. 26:65

    وَأَنجَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ

    Wa-ʹañjaynaa Moosaa wa-mam maʻahooo ʹajmaʻeen;

And We saved Moses and those with him, all together.

  125. 26:66

    S̤umma ʹag̣raq̣nal ʹaakhareen.

    Then We drowned the others.

  126. 26:67

ʹInna fee ẓaalika laʹAayah: wa-maa kaana ʹaks̤aruhum Muʹmineen.

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

  127. 26:68

    Wa-ʹinna Rabbaka la-Huwal ʻAzeezur Raḥeem.

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

  128. 26:69

    Watlu ʻalayhim nabaʹa ʹIbraaheem.

And recite to them the news of Abraham,

  129. 26:70

ʹIẓ q̣aala liʹabeehi wa-q̣awmihee maa- taʻbudoon?

When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?"

  130. 26:71

Q̣aaloo naʻbudu ʹaṣnaamañ fanaz̤̣allu lahaa ʻaakifeen.

They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted."

  131. 26:72

    Q̣aala hal yasmaʻoonakum ʹiẓ tadʻoon.

He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate?

  132. 26:73

    ʹAw yañfaʻoonakum ʹaw yaḍurroon?

Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?"

  133. 26:74

Q̣aaloo bal wajadnaaa ʹaabaaaʹanaa kaẓaalika yafʻaloon.

They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus."

  134. 26:75

    Q̣aala ʹafaraʹaytum maa kuñtum taʻbudoon,

He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping,

  135. 26:76

    ʹAñtum wa-ʹaabaaaʹukumul ʹaq̣damoon,

    You and your ancient forefathers?

  136. 26:77

    فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّ لِّىٓ إِلَّا رَبَّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

    Faʹinnahum ʻaduwwul leee ʹillaa Rabbal ʻaalameen;

Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds,

  137. 26:78

    ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَنِى فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ

    ʹAllaẓee khalaq̣anee fa-Huwa yahdeen;

Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me.

  138. 26:79

    Wallaẓee Huwa yuṭʻimunee wa-yasq̣een,

And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink.

  139. 26:80

    Wa-ʹiẓaa mariḍtu fa-Huwa yashfeen:

And when I am ill, it is He who cures me

  140. 26:81

    وَٱلَّذِى يُمِيتُنِى ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ

    wallaẓee yumeetunee s̤umma yuḥyeen;

And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life

  141. 26:82

Wallaẓeee ʹaṭmaʻu añy yag̣fira lee khaṭeeeʹatee Yawmad Deen...

And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense."

  142. 26:83

    رَبِّ هَبْ لِى حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِى بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

    Rabbi hab lee ḥukmañw waʹalḥiq̣nee biṣ-Ṣaaliḥeen;

[And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous.

  143. 26:84

    وَٱجْعَل لِّى لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

    Wajʻal lee lisaana ṣidq̣iñ fil ʹaakhireen;

And grant me a mention [i.e., reputation] of honor among later generations.

  144. 26:85

    Wajʻalnee miñw waras̤ati Jannatin Naʻeem.

And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure.

  145. 26:86

    وَٱغْفِرْ لِأَبِىٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

    Wag̣fir liʹabeee ʹinnahoo kaana minaḍ ḍaaalleen;

And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray.

  146. 26:87

    وَلَا تُخْزِنِى يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ

    Wa-laa tukhzinee Yawma yubʻas̤oon;

And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected -

  147. 26:88

Yawma laa- yañfaʻu maaluñw walaa banoon,

The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children

  148. 26:89

Illaa man ʹatal laaha biq̣albiñ saleem.

But only one who comes to Allāh with a sound heart."

  149. 26:90

    Wa-ʹuzlifatil Jannatu lil-Muttaq̣een,

And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous.

  150. 26:91

    وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ

    Wa-burrizatil Jaḥeemu lilg̣aaween;

And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators,

  151. 26:92

Wa-q̣eela lahum ʹayna maa- kuñtum taʻbudoon.

And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship

  152. 26:93

Miñ doonil laah? Hal yañṣuroonakum ʹaw yañtaṣiroon?

Other than Allāh? Can they help you or help themselves?"

  153. 26:94

    Fakubkiboo feehaa hum walg̣aawoon,

So they will be overturned into it [i.e., Hellfire], they and the deviators

  154. 26:95

    Wa-junoodu ʹIbleesa ʹajmaʻoon.

And the soldiers of Iblees, all together.

  155. 26:96

    قَالُوا۟ وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ

    Q̣aaloo wa-hum feehaa yakhtaṣimoon;

They will say while they dispute therein,

  156. 26:97

Tallaahi ʹiñ kunnaa lafee ḍalaalim mubeen.

"By Allāh, we were indeed in manifest error

  157. 26:98

    ʹIẓ nusawweekum̃ bi-Rabbil ʻAalameen.

When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds.

  158. 26:99

    Wa-maaa ʹaḍallanaaa ʹillal mujrimoon.

And no one misguided us except the criminals.

  159. 26:100

    Famaa lanaa miñ shaafiʻeen,

So now we have no intercessors

  160. 26:101

    Wa-laa ṣadeeq̣in ḥameem.

    And not a devoted friend.

  161. 26:102

Falaw ʹanna lanaa karratañ fanakoona minal Muʹmineen!

Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers..."

  162. 26:103

ʹInna fee ẓaalika laʹAayah: wa-maa kaana ʹaks̤aruhum Muʹmineen.

Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

  163. 26:104

    Wa-ʹinna Rabbaka la-Huwal ʻAzeezur Raḥeem.

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

  164. 26:105

    Kaẓẓabat q̣awmu Nooḥinil mursaleen.

The people of Noah denied the messengers

  165. 26:106

ʹIẓ q̣aala lahum ʹakhoohum Nooḥun ʹalaa tattaq̣oon?

When their brother Noah said to them, "Will you not fear Allāh?

  166. 26:107

    ʹInnee lakum rasoolun ʹameen:

Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.

  167. 26:108

    Fattaq̣ul laaha wa-ʹaṭeeʻoon.

So fear Allāh and obey me.

  168. 26:109

Wa-maaa ʹasʹalukum ʻalayhi min ʹajr; ʹin ʹajriya ʹillaa ʻalaa Rabbil ʻAalameen.

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

  169. 26:110

    Fattaq̣ul laaha wa-ʹaṭeeʻoon.

So fear Allāh and obey me."

  170. 26:111

    Q̣aalooo ʹanuʹminu laka wattabaʻakal ʹarẓaloon?

They said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest [class of people]?"

  171. 26:112

Q̣aala wa-maa ʻilmee Bimaa- kaanoo yaʻmaloon?

He said, "And what is my knowledge of what they used to do?

  172. 26:113

ʹIn ḥisaabuhum ʹillaa ʻalaa Rabbee law tashʻuroon.

Their account is only upon my Lord, if you [could] perceive.

  173. 26:114

    Wa-maaa ʹana biṭaaridil Muʹmineen.

And I am not one to drive away the believers.

  174. 26:115

    In ʹana ʹillaa mubeen. naẓeerum

I am only a clear warner."

  175. 26:116

They said, "If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be of those who are stoned."

  176. 26:117

    Q̣aala Rabbi ʹinna q̣awmee kaẓẓaboon.

He said, "My Lord, indeed my people have denied me.

  177. 26:118

Faftaḥ baynee wa-baynahum fat-hañw wanajjinee wa-mam maʻiya minal Muʹmineen.

Then judge between me and them with decisive judgement and save me and those with me of the believers."

  178. 26:119

Faʹañjaynaahu wa-mam maʻahoo fil fulkil mashḥoon.

So We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.

  179. 26:120

    S̤umma ʹag̣raq̣naa baʻdul baaq̣een.

Then We drowned thereafter the remaining ones.

  180. 26:121

    Wa-ʹInna Rabbaka la-Huwal ʻAzeezur Raḥeem.

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

  182. 26:123

    Kaẓẓabat ʻAadunil mursaleen,

    ʿAad denied the messengers

  183. 26:124

ʹIẓ q̣aala lahum ʹakhoohum Hoodun ʹalaa tattaq̣oon?

    Fattaq̣ul laaha wa-ʹaṭeeʻoon.

So fear Allāh and obey me.

  186. 26:127

    ʹAtabnoona bikulli reeʻin ʹaayatañ taʻbas̤oon?

Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves,

  188. 26:129

    Wa-tattakhiẓoona maṣaaniʻa laʻallakum takhludoon?

And take for yourselves constructions [i.e., palaces and fortresses] that you might abide eternally?

  189. 26:130

    Wa-ʹiẓaa baṭashtum̃ baṭashtum jabbaareen?

  190. 26:131

    Fattaq̣ul laaha wa-ʹaṭeeʻoon.

So fear Allāh and obey me.

    Wattaq̣ul laẓeee ʹamaddakum̃ bimaa taʻlamoon.

And fear He who provided you with that which you know,

So fear Allāh and obey me.

  204. 26:145

    Q̣aalooo ʹinnamaaa ʹañta minal musaḥḥareen!

They said, "You are only of those affected by magic.

  213. 26:154

You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful."

  214. 26:155

Q̣aala haẓihee naaq̣atul lahaa shirbuñw walakum shirbu yawmim maʻloom.

    Fanajjaynaahu wa-ʹahlahooo ʹajmaʻeen,

So We saved him and his family, all,

    ʹIllaa ʻajoozañ fil g̣aabireen.

  231. 26:172

    S̤umma dammarnal ʹaakhareen.

    Then We destroyed the others.

  232. 26:173

Wa-ʹamṭarnaa ʻalayhim maṭaraa: fasaaaʹa maṭarul muñẓareen!

And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned.

  233. 26:174

    Wazinoo bilq̣isṭaasil mustaq̣eem.

And weigh with an even [i.e., honest] balance.

  242. 26:183

Wa-laa tabkhasun naasa ʹashyaaaʹahum wa-laa taʻs̤aw fil ʹarḍi mufsideen.

And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption.

  243. 26:184

Faʹasq̣iṭ ʻalaynaa kisafam minas samaaaʹi ʹiñ kuñta minaṣ ṣaadiq̣een!

So cause to fall upon us fragments of the sky, if you should be of the truthful."

  247. 26:188

    Q̣aala Rabbeee ʹaʻlamu bimaa taʻmaloon.

He said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do."

  248. 26:189

Fakaẓẓaboohu faʹakhaẓahum ʻaẓaabu Yawmiz̤̣ z̤̣ullah: ʹinnahoo kaana ʻaẓaaba Yawmin ʻAz̤̣eem.

And they denied him, so the punishment of the day of the black cloud seized them. Indeed, it was the punishment of a terrible day.

  249. 26:190

    Wa-ʹinna Rabbaka la-Huwal ʻAzeezur Raḥeem.

And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

  251. 26:192

    Wa-ʹinnahoo la-Tañzeelu Rabbil ʻAalameen.

And indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds.

  252. 26:193

    Nazala bihir Rooḥul ʹAmeen.

The Trustworthy Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] has brought it down

  253. 26:194

    ʻAlaa q̣albika litakoona minal muñẓireen.

Upon your heart, [O Muḥammad] - that you may be of the warners

  254. 26:195

    Bilisaanin ʻArabiyyim mubeen.

    In a clear Arabic language.

  255. 26:196

    Wa-ʹinnahoo lafee Zuburil ʹawwaleen.

And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples.

  256. 26:197

ʹAwalam yakul lahum ʹAayatan ʹañy yaʻlamahoo ʻulamaaaʹu Baneee ʹIsraaaʹeel?

And has it not been a sign to them that it is recognized by the scholars of the Children of Israel?

  257. 26:198

    Wa-law nazzalnaahu ʻalaa baʻḍil ʹaʻjameen,

And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners

  258. 26:199

Faq̣araʹahoo ʻalayhim maa kaanoo bihee muʹmineen.

And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it.

  259. 26:200

    Kaẓaalika salaknaahu fee q̣uloobil mujrimeen.

Thus have We inserted it [i.e., disbelief] into the hearts of the criminals.

  260. 26:201

    لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ يَرَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَ

    Laa- yuʹminoona bihee ḥattaa yarawul ʻaẓabal ʹaleem;

They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment.

  261. 26:202

    Fayaʹtiyahum̃ bag̣tatañw wahum laa- yashʻuroon.

And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not.

  262. 26:203

    Fayaq̣ooloo hal naḥnu muñz̤̣aroon.

And they will say, "May we be reprieved?"

  263. 26:204

    ʹAfabiʻaẓaabinaa yastaʻjiloon?

So for Our punishment are they impatient?

  264. 26:205

    ʹAfaraʹayta ʹim mattaʻnaahum sineen.

Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years

  265. 26:206

    S̤umma jaaaʹahum maa kaanoo yooʻadoon!

And then there came to them that which they were promised?

  266. 26:207

Maaa ʹag̣naa ʻanhum maa kaanoo yumattaʻoon!

They would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided.

  267. 26:208

Wa-maaa ʹahlaknaa miñ q̣aryatin ʹillaa lahaa muñẓiroon.

And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners

  268. 26:209

    Ẓikraa wa-maa kunnaa z̤̣aalimeen.

As a reminder; and never have We been unjust.

  269. 26:210

    وَمَا تَنَزَّلَتْ بِهِ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُ

    Wa-maa tanazzalat bihish shayaaṭeen;

And the devils have not brought it [i.e., the revelation] down.

  270. 26:211

    Wa-maa yambag̣ee lahum wa-maa yastaṭeeʻoon.

It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able.

  271. 26:212

    ʹInnahum ʻanis samʻi lamaʻzooloon.

Indeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed.

  272. 26:213

So do not invoke with Allāh another deity and [thus] be among the punished.

  273. 26:214

    Wa-ʹañẓir ʻasheeratakal ʹaq̣rabeen,

And warn, [O Muḥammad], your closest kindred.

  274. 26:215

Wakhfiḍ janaaḥaka limanit tabaʻaka minal Muʹmineen.

And lower your wing [i.e., show kindness] to those who follow you of the believers.

  275. 26:216

Faʹin ʻaṣawka faq̣ul ʹinnee bareeeʹum mimmaa taʻmaloon!

And if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing."

  276. 26:217

    Wa-tawakkal ʻalal ʻAzeezir Raḥeem.

And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,

  277. 26:218

    ʹAllaẓee yaraaka ḥeena taq̣oom,

Who sees you when you arise

  278. 26:219

    Wa-taq̣allubaka fis saajideen.

And your movement among those who prostrate.

  279. 26:220

    ʹInnahoo Huwas Sameeʻul ʻAleem.

Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

  280. 26:221

Hal ʹunabbiʹukum ʻalaa mañ tanazzalush shayaaṭeen?

Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend?

  281. 26:222

    Tanazzalu ʻalaa kulli ʹaffaakin ʹas̤eem,

They descend upon every sinful liar.

  282. 26:223

    Yulq̣oonas samʻa wa-ʹaks̤aruhum kaaẓiboon.

They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars.

  283. 26:224

    Washshuʻaraaaʹu yattabiʻuhumul g̣aawoon:

And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them.

  284. 26:225

ʹAlam tara ʹannahum fee kulli waadiñy yaheemoon.

Do you not see that in every valley they roam

  285. 26:226

    Wa-ʹannahum yaq̣ooloona maa laa- yafʻaloon?

And that they say what they do not do? -

  286. 26:227

    ʹIllal laẓeena ʹaamanoo wa-ʻamiluṣ ṣaaliḥaati waẓakarul laaha kas̤eerañw wañtaṣaroo mim baʻdi maa- z̤̣ulimoo. Wa-sayaʻlamul laz̤̣eena z̤̣alamooo ʹayya muñq̣alabiñy yañq̣aliboon!

Except those [poets] who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allāh often and defend [the Muslims] after they were wronged. And those who have wronged are going to know to what [kind of] return they will be returned.

  287. Surah An-NamlBegins here at 27:1

  288. 27:1

    طسٓ ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ وَكِتَابٍ مُّبِينٍ

    Ṭaa-Seeen. Tilka ʹAayaatul Q̣ur-ʹaani wa-kitaabim mubeen;

Ṭā, Seen. These are the verses of the Qur’ān [i.e., recitation] and a clear Book

  289. 27:2

    Hudañw Wa-Bushraa lil-Muʹmineen,

As guidance and good tidings for the believers

  290. 27:3

    ʹAllaẓeena yuq̣eemoonaṣ Ṣalaata wa-yuʹtoonaz Zakaata wa-hum̃ bil-ʹAakhirati hum yooq̣inoon.

Who establish prayer and give zakāh, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith].

  291. 27:4

ʹInnal laẓeena laa- yuʹminoona bil-ʹAakhirati Zayyannaa lahum ʹaʻmaalahum fahum yaʻmahoon.

Indeed, for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have made pleasing to them their deeds, so they wander blindly.

  292. 27:5

ʹUlaaaʹikal laẓeena lahum soooʹul ʻaẓaabi wa-hum fil ʹAakhirati humul ʹakhsaroon.

Those are the ones for whom there will be the worst of punishment, and in the Hereafter they are the greatest losers.

  293. 27:6

    Wa-ʹinnaka latulaq̣q̣al Q̣ur-ʹaana mil ladun Ḥakeemin ʻAleem.

And indeed, [O Muḥammad], you receive the Qur’ān from one Wise and Knowing.

  294. 27:7

ʹIẓ q̣aala Moosaa liʹahliheee ʹinneee ʹaanastu naaraa; saʹaateekum minhaa bikhabarin ʹaw ʹaateekum̃ bishihaabiñ q̣abasil laʻallakum taṣṭaloon.

[Mention] when Moses said to his family, "Indeed, I have perceived a fire. I will bring you from there information or will bring you a burning torch that you may warm yourselves."

  295. 27:8

Falammaa jaaaʹahaa noodiya ʹam boorika mañ fin Naari wa-man ḥawlahaa: wa-Subḥaanal laahi Rabbil ʻAalameen.

But when he came to it, he was called, "Blessed is whoever is at the fire and whoever is around it. And exalted is Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

  296. 27:9

Yaa-Moosaaa ʹinnahooo ʹAnal laahul ʻAzeezul Ḥakeem!

O Moses, indeed it is I - Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

  297. 27:10

Wa-ʹalq̣i ʻaṣaak! falammaa raʹaahaa tahtazzu kaʹannahaa jaaannuñw wallaa mudbirañw walam yuʻaq̣q̣ib yaa-Moosaa laa- takhaf: ʹinnee laa- yakhaafu ladayyal mursaloon,

And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it were a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [Allāh said], "O Moses, fear not. Indeed, in My presence the messengers do not fear.

  298. 27:11

ʹIllaa mañ z̤̣alama s̤umma baddala ḥusnam baʻda soooʹiñ faʹinnee G̣afoorur Raḥeem.

Otherwise, he who wrongs, then substitutes good after evil - indeed, I am Forgiving and Merciful.

  299. 27:12

Wa-ʹadkhil yadaka fee jaybika takhruj bayḍaaaʹa min g̣ayri soooʹ: fee tisʻi ʹAayaatin ʹilaa Firʻawna wa-q̣awmih: ʹinnahum kaanoo q̣awmañ faasiq̣een.

And put your hand into the opening of your garment [at the breast]; it will come out white without disease. [These are] among the nine signs [you will take] to Pharaoh and his people. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."

  300. 27:13

Falammaa jaaaʹathum ʹAayaatunaa mubṣiratañ q̣aaloo haaẓaa siḥrum mubeen!

But when there came to them Our visible signs, they said, "This is obvious magic."

  301. 27:14

    Wa-jaḥadoo bihaa wastayq̣anathaaa ʹañfusuhum z̤̣ulmañw waʻuluwwaa; fañz̤̣ur kayfa kaana ʻaaq̣ibatul mufsideen!

And they rejected them, while their [inner] selves were convinced thereof, out of injustice and haughtiness. So see how was the end of the corrupters.

  302. 27:15

Wa-laq̣ad ʹaataynaa Daawooda wa-Sulaymaana ʻilmaa: Wa-q̣aalal Ḥamdu lil-laahil laẓee faḍḍalnaa ʻalaa kas̤eerim min ʻibaadihil Muʹmineen!

And We had certainly given to David and Solomon knowledge, and they said, "Praise [is due] to Allāh, who has favored us over many of His believing servants."

  303. 27:16

Wa-waris̤a Sulaymaanu Daawooda wa-q̣aala yaaaʹayyuhan naasu ʻullimnaa Mañṭiq̣aṭ Ṭayri wa-ʹooteenaa miñ kulli shayʹ: ʹinna haaẓaa lahuwal Faḍlul mubeen.

And Solomon inherited David. He said, "O people, we have been taught the language of birds, and we have been given from all things. Indeed, this is evident bounty."

  304. 27:17

    وَحُشِرَ لِسُلَيْمَـٰنَ جُنُودُهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ وَٱلطَّيْرِ فَهُمْ يُوزَعُونَ

    Wa-ḥushira li-Sulaymaana junooduhoo minal jinni wal-ʹiñsi waṭṭayri fahum yoozaʹoon;

And gathered for Solomon were his soldiers of the jinn and men and birds, and they were [marching] in rows

  305. 27:18

Ḥattaaa ʹiẓaaa ʹataw ʻalaa Waadin namli q̣aalat namlatuñy yaaaʹayyuhan namlud khuloo masaakinakum, laa- yaḥṭimannakum Sulaymaanu wa-junooduhoo wahum laa- yashʻuroon.

Until, when they came upon the valley of the ants, an ant said, "O ants, enter your dwellings that you not be crushed by Solomon and his soldiers while they perceive not."

  306. 27:19

Fatabassama ḍaaḥikam miñ q̣awlihaa wa-q̣aala Rabbi ʹawziʻneee ʹan ʹashkura niʻmatakal lateee ʹanʻamta ʻalayya wa-ʻalaa waalidayya wa-ʹan ʹaʻmala ṣaaliḥañ tarḍaahu wa-ʹadkhilnee bi-Raḥmatika fee ʻibaadikaṣ ṣaaliḥeen.

So [Solomon] smiled, amused at her speech, and said, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants."

  307. 27:20

Wa-tafaq̣q̣adaṭ Ṭayra faq̣aala maa- liya laaa ʹar al-Hudhuda ʹam kaana minal g̣aaaʹibeen?

And he took attendance of the birds and said, "Why do I not see the hoopoe - or is he among the absent?

  308. 27:21

Laʹuʻaẓẓibannahoo ʻaẓaabañ shadeedan ʹaw laʹaẓbaḥannahooo ʹaw layaʹtiyannee bisulṭaanim mubeen.

I will surely punish him with a severe punishment or slaughter him unless he brings me clear authorization."

  309. 27:22

Famakas̤a g̣ayra baʻeediñ faq̣aala ʹaḥatu bimaa lam tuḥiṭ bihee wa-jiʹtuka miñ Sabaʹim binabaʹiñy yaq̣een.

But he [i.e., the hoopoe] stayed not long and said, "I have encompassed [in knowledge] that which you have not encompassed, and I have come to you from Sheba with certain news.

  310. 27:23

ʹInnee wa-jattum raʹatañ tamlikuhum wa-ʹootiyat miñ kulli shayʹiñw walahaa ʻarshun ʻaz̤̣eem.

Indeed, I found [there] a woman ruling them, and she has been given of all things, and she has a great throne.

  311. 27:24

    وَجَدتُّهَا وَقَوْمَهَا يَسْجُدُونَ لِلشَّمْسِ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ فَهُمْ لَا يَهْتَدُونَ

    Wa-jattuhaa wa-q̣awmahaa yasjudoona lishshamsi miñ doonil laahi wa-zayyana lahumush Shayṭaanu ʹaʻmaalahum faṣaddahum ʻanis Sabeeli fahum laa- yahtadoon;

I found her and her people prostrating to the sun instead of Allāh, and Satan has made their deeds pleasing to them and averted them from [His] way, so they are not guided,

  312. 27:25

ʹAllaa yasjudoo lillaahil laẓee yukhrijul khabʹa fis samaawaati wal-ʹarḍi wayaʻlamu maa- tukhfoona wa-maa tuʻlinoon.

[And] so they do not prostrate to Allāh, who brings forth what is hidden within the heavens and the earth and knows what you conceal and what you declare -

  313. 27:26

ʹAllaahu laaa ʹilaaha ʹillaa Huwa Rabbul ʻArshil ʻAz̤̣eem!

Allāh - there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Great Throne."

  314. 27:27

    Q̣aala sanañz̤̣uru ʹaṣadaq̣ta ʹam kuñta minal kaaẓibeen!

[Solomon] said, "We will see whether you were truthful or were of the liars.

  315. 27:28

ʹIẓhab bi-Kitaabee haaẓaa faʹalq̣ih ʹilayhim s̤umma tawalla ʻanhum fañz̤̣ur maaẓaa yarjiʻoon.

Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them. Then leave them and see what [answer] they will return."

  316. 27:29

Q̣aalat yaaʹayyuhal malaʹu ʹinneee ʹulq̣iya ʹilayya kitaabuñ kareem.

She said, "O eminent ones, indeed, to me has been delivered a noble letter.

  317. 27:30

ʹInnahoo miñ Sulaymaana wa-ʹinnahoo ˹Bismil laahir Raḥmaanir Raḥeem:˺

Indeed, it is from Solomon, and indeed, it is [i.e., reads]: 'In the name of Allāh, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,

  318. 27:31

    ʹAllaa taʻloo ʻalayya waʹ-toonee Muslimeen.

Be not haughty with me but come to me in submission [as Muslims].'"

  319. 27:32

Q̣aalat yaaaʹayyuhal malaʹu aftoonee feee ʹamree: maa- kuñtu q̣aaṭiʻatan ʹamran ḥattaa tashhadoon.

She said, "O eminent ones, advise me in my affair. I would not decide a matter until you witness [for] me."

  320. 27:33

Q̣aaloo naḥnu ʹuloo q̣uwwatiñw waʹuloo baʹsiñ shadeed: wal-ʹamru ʹilayki fañz̤̣uree maaẓaa taʹmureen.

They said, "We are men of strength and of great military might, but the command is yours, so see what you will command."

  321. 27:34

Q̣aalat ʹinnal mulooka ʹiẓaa dakhaloo q̣aryatan ʹafsadoohaa wa-jaʻalooo ʹaʻizzata ʹahlihaaa ʹaẓillah: wa-kaẓaalika yafʻaloon.

She said, "Indeed kings - when they enter a city, they ruin it and render the honored of its people humbled. And thus do they do.

  322. 27:35

Wa-ʹinnee mursilatun ʹilayhim bihadiyyatiñ fanaaz̤̣iratum bima yarjiʻul mursaloon.

But indeed, I will send to them a gift and see with what [reply] the messengers will return."

  323. 27:36

Falammaa jaaaʹa Sulaymaana q̣aala ʹatumiddoonani bimaal? Famaaa ʹaataaniyal laahu khayrum mimmaaa ʹaataakum! Bal ʹañtum̃ bihadiyyatikum tafraḥoon!

So when they came to Solomon, he said, "Do you provide me with wealth? But what Allāh has given me is better than what He has given you. Rather, it is you who rejoice in your gift.

  324. 27:37

ʹIrjiʻ ʹilayhim falanaʹtiyannahum̃ bijunoodil laa q̣ibala lahum̃ bihaa wa-lanukhrijannahum minhaaa ʹaẓillatañw Wahum ṣaag̣iroon.

Return to them, for we will surely come to them with soldiers that they will be powerless to encounter, and we will surely expel them therefrom in humiliation, and they will be debased."

  325. 27:38

Q̣aala yaaaʹayyuhal malaʹu ʹayyukum yaʹteenee biʻarshihaa q̣abla ʹañy yaʹtoonee muslimeen?

[Solomon] said, "O assembly [of jinn], which of you will bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?"

  326. 27:39

Q̣aala ʻIfreetum minal jinni ʹana ʹaateeka bihee q̣abla ʹañ taq̣ooma mim maq̣aamik: wa-ʹinnee ʻalayhi laq̣awiyyun ʹameen.

A powerful one from among the jinn said, "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place, and indeed, I am for this [task] strong and trustworthy."

  327. 27:40

Q̣aalal laẓee ʻiñdahoo ʻilmum minal Kitaabi ʹana ʹaateeka bihee q̣abla ʹañy yartadda ʹilayka ṭarfuk! Falammaa raʹaahu mustaq̣irran ʻiñdahoo q̣aala haaẓaa miñ faḍli Rabbee liyabluwaneee ʹaʹashkuru ʹam ʹakfur! Wa-mañ shakara faʹinnamaa yashkuru linafsih; wa-mañ kafara faʹinna Rabbee G̣aniyyuñ Kareem!...

Said one who had knowledge from the Scripture, "I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you." And when [Solomon] saw it placed before him, he said, "This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful. And whoever is grateful - his gratitude is only for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever is ungrateful - then indeed, my Lord is Free of need and Generous."

  328. 27:41

Q̣aala nakkiroo lahaa ʻarshahaa nañz̤̣ur ʹatahtadeee ʹam takoonu minal laẓeena laa- yahtadoon.

He said, "Disguise for her her throne; we will see whether she will be guided [to truth] or will be of those who is not guided."

  329. 27:42

Falammaa jaaaʹat q̣eela ʹahaakaẓaa ʻarshuk? Q̣aalat kaʹannahoo hoo; wa-ʹooteenal ʻilma miñ q̣ablihaa wa-kunnaa Muslimeen.

So when she arrived, it was said [to her], "Is your throne like this?" She said, "[It is] as though it was it." [Solomon said], "And we were given knowledge before her, and we have been Muslims [in submission to Allāh].

  330. 27:43

Waṣaddahaa maa- kaanat taʻbudu miñ doonil laah: ʹinnahaa kaanat miñ q̣awmiñ kaafireen.

And that which she was worshipping other than Allāh had averted her [from submission to Him]. Indeed, she was from a disbelieving people."

  331. 27:44

Q̣eela lahad khuliṣ ṣarḥ: falammaaنَ raʹathu ḥasibathu lujjatañw wakashafat ʻañ saaq̣ayhaa. Q̣aala ʹinnahoo ṣarḥum mumarradum miñ q̣awaareer. Q̣aalat Rabbi ʹinnee z̤̣alamtu nafsee wa-ʹaslamtu maʻa Sulaymaana lillaahi Rabbil ʻAalameen.

She was told, "Enter the palace." But when she saw it, she thought it was a body of water and uncovered her shins [to wade through]. He said, "Indeed, it is a palace [whose floor is] made smooth with glass." She said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allāh, Lord of the worlds."

  332. 27:45

Wa-laq̣ad ʹarsalnaaa ʹilaa S̤amooda ʹakhaahum Ṣaaliḥan ʹaniʻ budul laaha faʹiẓaa hum fareeq̣aani yakhtaṣimoon.

And We had certainly sent to Thamūd their brother Ṣāliḥ, [saying], "Worship Allāh," and at once they were two parties conflicting.

  333. 27:46

    Q̣aala yaa-q̣awmi lima tastaʻjiloona bissayyiʹati q̣ablal ḥasanah? Law-laa tas-tag̣firoonal laaha laʻallakum turḥamoon.

He said, "O my people, why are you impatient for evil before [i.e., instead of] good? Why do you not seek forgiveness of Allāh that you may receive mercy?"

  334. 27:47

Q̣aaluṭ ṭayyarnaa bika wa-bimam maʻak. Q̣aala ṭaaaʹirukum ʻiñdal laahi bal ʹañtum q̣awmuñ tuftanoon.

They said, "We consider you a bad omen, you and those with you." He said, "Your omen [i.e., fate] is with Allāh. Rather, you are a people being tested."

  335. 27:48

Wa-kaana fil madeenati tisʻatu rahṭiñy yufsidoona fil ʹarḍi wa-laa yuṣliḥoon.

And there were in the city nine family heads causing corruption in the land and not amending [its affairs].

  336. 27:49

    Q̣aaloo taq̣aasamoo billaahi lanubayyitannahoo wa-ʹahlahoo s̤umma lanaq̣oolanna liwaliyyihee maa- shahidnaa mahlika ʹahlihee wa-ʹinnaa laṣaadiq̣oon.

They said, "Take a mutual oath by Allāh that we will kill him by night, he and his family. Then we will say to his executor, 'We did not witness the destruction of his family, and indeed, we are truthful.'"

  337. 27:50

Wa-makaroo makrañw wamakarnaa makrañw wahum laa- yashʻuroon.

And they planned a plan, and We planned a plan, while they perceived not.

  338. 27:51

Fañz̤̣ur kayfa kaana ʻaaq̣ibatu makrihim ʹannaa dammarnaahum wa-q̣awmahum ʹajmaʻeen.

Then look how was the outcome of their plan - that We destroyed them and their people, all.

  339. 27:52

Fatilka buyootuhum khaawiyatam bimaa z̤̣alamoo.

So those are their houses, desolate because of the wrong they had done. Indeed in that is a sign for people who know.

  340. 27:53

    Wa-ʹañjaynal laẓeena ʹaamanoo wa-kaanoo yattaq̣oon.

And We saved those who believed and used to fear Allāh.

  341. 27:54

    Wa-Looṭan ʹiẓ q̣aala liq̣awmiheee ʹataʹtoonal faa-ḥishata wa-ʹañtum tubṣiroon?

And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, "Do you commit immorality while you are seeing?

  342. 27:55

ʹAʹinnakum lataʹtoonar rijaala shahwatam miñ doonin nisaaaʹ? Bal ʹañtum q̣awmuñ tajhaloon!

Do you indeed approach men with desire instead of women? Rather, you are a people behaving ignorantly."
