Surah Al-Infitar

Verse 82:1

اِذَا السَّمَآءُ انْفَطَرَتْ ۟ۙ

ʹIẓas Samaaaʹuñ faṭarat;

When the sky splits open,

Verse 82:2

وَاِذَا الْكَوَاكِبُ انْتَثَرَتْ ۟ۙ

Wa-ʹiẓal kawaakibuñ tas̤arat;

and when the stars fall away,

Verse 82:3

وَاِذَا الْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْ ۟ۙ

Wa-ʹiẓal biḥaaru fujjirat;

and when the seas burst forth,

Verse 82:4

وَاِذَا الْقُبُوْرُ بُعْثِرَتْ ۟ۙ

Wa-ʹiẓal q̣ubooru buʻs̤irat;

and when the graves spill out,

Verse 82:5

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَاَخَّرَتْ ۟ؕ

ʻAlimat nafsum maa q̣addamat wa-ʹakhkharat.

˹then˺ each soul will know what it has sent forth or left behind.

Verse 82:6

یٰۤاَیُّهَا الْاِنْسَانُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ الْكَرِیْمِ ۟ۙ

Yaaaʹayyuhal ʹiñsaanu maa- g̣arraka bi-Rabbikal Kareem?―

O humanity! What has emboldened you against your Lord, the Most Generous,

Verse 82:7

الَّذِیْ خَلَقَكَ فَسَوّٰىكَ فَعَدَلَكَ ۟ۙ

ʹAllaẓee khalaq̣aka fasawwaaka faʻadalak;

Who created you, fashioned you, and perfected your design,

Verse 82:8

فِیْۤ اَیِّ صُوْرَةٍ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ ۟ؕ

Feee ʹayyi Ṣooratim maa shaaaʹa rakkabak.

moulding you in whatever form He willed?

Verse 82:9

كَلَّا بَلْ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ بِالدِّیْنِ ۟ۙ

Kallaa bal tukaẓẓiboona bid-Deen!

But no! In fact, you deny the ˹final˺ Judgment,

Verse 82:10

وَاِنَّ عَلَیْكُمْ لَحٰفِظِیْنَ ۟ۙ

Wa-ʹinna ʻalaykum laḥaafiz̤̣een,―

while you are certainly observed by vigilant,

Verse 82:11

كِرَامًا كَاتِبِیْنَ ۟ۙ

Kiraamañ Kaatibeen:

honourable angels, recording ˹everything˺.

Verse 82:12

یَعْلَمُوْنَ مَا تَفْعَلُوْنَ ۟

Yaʻlamoona maa- tafʻaloon.

They know whatever you do.

Verse 82:13

اِنَّ الْاَبْرَارَ لَفِیْ نَعِیْمٍ ۟ۙ

ʹInnal ʹabraara lafee Naʻeem;

Indeed, the virtuous will be in bliss,

Verse 82:14

وَاِنَّ الْفُجَّارَ لَفِیْ جَحِیْمٍ ۟ۚۖ

Wa-ʹinnal fujjaara lafee Jaḥeem.

and the wicked will be in Hell,

Verse 82:15

یَّصْلَوْنَهَا یَوْمَ الدِّیْنِ ۟

Yaṣlawnahaa Yawmad Deen.

burning in it on Judgment Day,

Verse 82:16

وَمَا هُمْ عَنْهَا بِغَآىِٕبِیْنَ ۟ؕ

Wa-maa hum ʻanhaa big̣aaaʹibeen.

and they will have no escape from it.

Verse 82:17

وَمَاۤ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا یَوْمُ الدِّیْنِ ۟ۙ

Wa-maaa ʹadraaka maa- Yawmud Deen?

What will make you realize what Judgment Day is?

Verse 82:18

ثُمَّ مَاۤ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا یَوْمُ الدِّیْنِ ۟ؕ

S̤umma maaa ʹadraaka maa- Yawmud Deen?

Again, what will make you realize what Judgment Day is?

Verse 82:19

یَوْمَ لَا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌ لِّنَفْسٍ شَیْـًٔا ؕ وَالْاَمْرُ یَوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلّٰهِ ۟۠

Yawma laa- tamliku nafsul linafsiñ shayʹaa: walʹAmru Yawmaʹiẓil lillaah.

˹It is˺ the Day no soul will be of ˹any˺ benefit to another whatsoever, for all authority on that Day belongs to Allah ˹entirely˺.
