Wal-Kitaabil Mubeen,―
By the clear Book,
-
3
Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur’ān that you might understand.
-
4
Wa-ʹinnahoo feee ʹUmmil Kitaabi ladaynaa laʻaliyyun Ḥakeem.
And indeed it is, in the Mother of the Book with Us, exalted and full of wisdom.
-
5
ʹA-fanaḍribu ʻañkumuẓ Ẓikra ṣafḥan ʹañ kuñtum q̣awmam musrifeen?
Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people?
-
6
Wa-kam ʹarsalnaa min nabiyyiñ fil ʹawwaleen?
And how many a prophet We sent among the former peoples,
-
7
Wa-maa yaʹteehim min nabiyyin ʹillaa kaanoo bihee yastahziʹoon.
But there would not come to them a prophet except that they used to ridicule him.
-
8
Faʹahlaknaaa ʹashadda minhum̃ baṭshañw wamaḍaa Mas̤alul ʹawwaleen.
And We destroyed greater than them in [striking] power, and the example of the former peoples has preceded.
-
9
Wa-laʹiñ saʹaltahum man khalaq̣as samaawaati wal-ʹarḍa layaq̣oolunna khalaq̣ahunnal ʻAzeezul ʻAleem;―
And if you should ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "They were created by the Exalted in Might, the Knowing,"
-
10
ʹAllaẓee jaʻala lakumul ʹarḍa mahdañw wajaʻala lakum feehaa subulal laʻallakum tahtadoon;
[The one] who has made for you the earth a bed and made for you upon it roads that you might be guided
-
11
Wallaẓee nazzala minas samaaaʹi maaaʹam biq̣adar;― faʹañsharnaa bihee baldatam maytaa; kaẓaalika tukhrajoon;―
And who sends down rain from the sky in measured amounts, and We revive thereby a dead land - thus will you be brought forth -
-
12
Wallaẓee khalaq̣al ʹazwaaja kullahaa wa-jaʻala lakum minal fulki wal-ʹanʻaami maa- tarkaboon.
And who created the species, all of them, and has made for you of ships and animals those which you mount
-
13
Litastawoo ʻalaa z̤̣uhoorihee s̤umma taẓkuroo niʻmata Rabbikum ʹiẓas tawaytum ʻalayhi wa-taq̣ooloo ʻʻSubḥaanal laẓee sakhkhara lanaa haaẓaa wa-maa kunnaa lahoo muq̣rineen.
That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say, "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it.
-
14
Wa-ʹinnaaa ʹilaa Rabbinaa lamuñq̣aliboon!ʹʹ
And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return."
-
15
Wa-jaʻaloo lahoo min ʻibaadihee juzʹaa! ʹInnal ʹiñsaana lakafoorum mubeen!
But they have attributed to Him from His servants a portion. Indeed, man is clearly ungrateful.
-
16
ʹAmit takhaẓa mimmaa yakhluq̣u banaatiñw waʹaṣfaakum bilbaneen?
Or has He taken, out of what He has created, daughters and chosen you for [having] sons?
-
17
Wa-ʹiẓaa bushshira ʹaḥaduhum̃ bimaa ḍaraba lir-Raḥmaani mas̤alañ z̤̣alla wajhuhoo muswaddañw wahuwa kaz̤̣eem!
And when one of them is given good tidings of that which he attributes to the Most Merciful in comparison [i.e., a daughter], his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief.
-
18
ʹA-wamañy yunashshaʹu fil ḥilyati wa-huwa fil khiṣaami g̣ayru mubeen?
So is one brought up in ornaments while being during conflict unevident [attributed to Allāh]?
-
19
Wa-jaʻalul malaaaʹikatal laẓeena hum ʻibaadur Raḥmaani ʹinaas̤aa. ʹA-shahidoo khalq̣ahum? Satuktabu shahaadatuhum wa-yusʹaloon!
And they described the angels, who are servants of the Most Merciful, as females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded, and they will be questioned.
-
20
Wa-q̣aaloo law shaaaʹar Raḥmaanu Maa- ʻabadnaahum! maa- lahum̃ biẓaalika min ʻilm! ʹIn hum ʹillaa yakhruṣoon!
And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them." They have of that no knowledge. They are not but misjudging.
-
21
ʹAm ʹaataynaahum Kitaabam miñ q̣ablihee fahum̃ bihee mustamsikoon?
Or have We given them a book before it [i.e., the Qur’ān] to which they are adhering?
-
22
Bal q̣aalooo ʹinnaa wajadnaaa ʹaabaaaʹanaa ʻalaaa ʹummatiñw Waʹinnaa ʻalaaa ʹaas̤aarihim muhtadoon.
Rather, they say, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are in their footsteps [rightly] guided."
-
23
Wa-kaẓaalika maaa ʹarsalnaa miñ q̣ablika fee q̣aryatim min Naẓeerin ʹillaa q̣aala mutrafoohaaa ʹinnaa wajadnaaa ʹaabaaaʹanaa ʻalaaa ʹummatiñw waʹinnaa ʻalaaa ʹaas̤aarihim muq̣tadoon.
And similarly, We did not send before you any warner into a city except that its affluent said, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are, in their footsteps, following."
-
24
Q̣aala ʹa-wa law jiʹtukum̃ biʹahdaa mimmaa wajattum ʻalayhi ʹaabaaaʹakum? Q̣aalooo ʹinnaa bimaaa ʹursiltum̃ bihee kaafiroon.
[Each warner] said, "Even if I brought you better guidance than that [religion] upon which you found your fathers?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which you were sent, are disbelievers."
-
25
Fañtaq̣amnaa minhum fañz̤̣ur kayfa kaana ʻaaq̣ibatul mukaẓẓibeen!
So We took retribution from them; then see how was the end of the deniers.
-
26
Wa-ʹiẓ q̣aala ʹIbraaheemu liʹabeehi wa-q̣awmiheee ʹinnanee baraaaʹum mimmaa taʻbudoon:
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Abraham said to his father and his people, "Indeed, I am disassociated from that which you worship
-
27
ʹIllal laẓee faṭaranee faʹinnahoo sayahdeen.
Except for He who created me; and indeed, He will guide me."
-
28
Wa-jaʻalahaa Kalimatam baaq̣iyatañ fee ʻaq̣ibihee laʻallahum yarjiʻoon.
And he made it a word remaining among his descendants that they might return [to it].
-
29
Bal mattaʻtu haaaʹulaaaʹi wa-ʹaabaaaʹahum ḥattaa jaaaʹahumul Ḥaq̣q̣u wa-Rasoolum mubeen.
However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger.
-
30
Wa-lammaa jaaaʹahumul Ḥaq̣q̣u q̣aaloo haaẓaa siḥruñw waʹinnaa bihee kaafiroon.
But when the truth came to them, they said, "This is magic, and indeed we are, concerning it, disbelievers."
-
31
Waq̣aaloo Law-laa nuzzila haaẓal Q̣urʹaanu ʻalaa rajulim minal q̣aryatayni ʻaz̤̣eem?
And they said, "Why was this Qur’ān not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?"
-
32
ʹAhum yaq̣simoona Raḥmata Rabbik? Naḥnu q̣asamnaa baynahum maʻeeshatahum fil ḥayaatid dunyaa wa-rafaʻnaa baʻḍahum fawq̣a baʻḍiñ darajaatil liyattakhiẓa baʻḍuhum̃ baʻḍañ sukhriyyaa. Wa-Raḥmatu Rabbika khayrum mimmaa yajmaʻoon.
Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of this world and have raised some of them above others in degrees [of rank] that they may make use of one another for service. But the mercy of your Lord is better than whatever they accumulate.
-
33
Wa-lawlaaa ʹañy yakoonan naasu ʹummatañw waaḥidatal lajaʻalnaa limañy yakfuru bir-Raḥmaani libuyootihim suq̣ufam miñ fiḍḍatiñw wamaʻaarija ʻalayhaa yaz̤̣haroon,
And if it were not that the people would become one community [of disbelievers], We would have made for those who disbelieve in the Most Merciful - for their houses - ceilings and stairways of silver upon which to mount.
-
34
Wa-li-buyootihim ʹabwaabañw Wasururan ʻalayhaa yattakiʹoon,
And for their houses - doors and couches [of silver] upon which to recline
-
35
Wa-ZUKHRUFAA. Wa-ʹiñ kullu ẓaalika lammaa mataaʻul ḥayaatid dunyaa: wal-ʹAakhiratu ʻiñda Rabbika lil-Muttaq̣een.
And gold ornament. But all that is not but the enjoyment of worldly life. And the Hereafter with your Lord is for the righteous.
-
36
Wa-mañy yaʻshu ʻañ ẓikrir Raḥmaani nuq̣ayyiḍ lahoo shayṭaanañ fahuwa lahoo q̣areen.
And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful - We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion.
-
37
Wa-ʹinnahum layaṣuddoonahum ʻanis sabeeli wa-yaḥsaboona ʹannahum muhtadoon!
And indeed, they [i.e., the devils] avert them from the way [of guidance] while they think that they are [rightly] guided
-
38
Ḥattaaa ʹiẓaa jaaaʹanaa q̣aala yaa-layta baynee wa-baynaka buʻdal Mashriq̣ayni fabiʹsal q̣areen!
Until, when he comes to Us [at Judgement], he says [to his companion], "How I wish there was between me and you the distance between the east and west; and what a wretched companion."
-
39
Wa-lañy yañfaʻakumul yawma ʹiz̤̣ z̤̣alamtum ʹannakum fil ʻaẓaabi mushtarikoon!
And never will it benefit you that Day, when you have wronged, that you are [all] sharing in the punishment.
-
40
ʹA-faʹañta tusmiʻuṣ ṣumma ʹaw tahdil ʻumya wa-mañ kaana fee ḍalaalim mubeen?
Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muḥammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error?
-
41
Faʹimmaa naẓhabanna bika faʹinnaa minhum muñtaq̣imoon,
And whether [or not] We take you away [in death], indeed, We will take retribution upon them.
-
42
ʹAw nuriyannakal laẓee waʻadnaahum faʹinnaa ʻalayhim muq̣tadiroon.
Or whether [or not] We show you that which We have promised them, indeed, We are Perfect in Ability.
-
43
Fastamsik billaẓeee ʹooḥiya ʹilayk: ʹinnaka ʻalaa Ṣiraaṭim Mustaq̣eem.
So adhere to that which is revealed to you. Indeed, you are on a straight path.
-
44
Wa-ʹinnahoo la-Ẓikrul laka wa-liq̣awmik; wa-sawfa tusʹaloon.
And indeed, it is a remembrance for you and your people, and you [all] are going to be questioned.
-
45
Wasʹal man ʹarsalnaa miñ q̣ablika mir rusulinaaa ʹajaʻalnaa miñ doonir Raḥmaani ʹaalihatañy yuʻbadoon?
And ask those We sent before you of Our messengers; have We made besides the Most Merciful deities to be worshipped?
-
46
Wa-laq̣ad ʹarsalnaa Moosaa biʹAayaatinaaa ʹilaa Firʻawna wa-malaʹihee faq̣aala ʹinnee Rasoolu Rabbil ʻAalameen.
And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds."
-
47
Falammaa jaaaʹahum̃ biʹAayaatinaaa ʹiẓaa hum minhaa yaḍḥakoon.
But when he brought them Our signs, at once they laughed at them.
-
48
Wa-maa nureehim min ʹaayatin ʹillaa hiya ʹakbaru min ʹukhtihaa, wa-ʹakhaẓnaahum̃ bilʻaẓaabi laʻallahum yarjiʻoon.
And We showed them not a sign except that it was greater than its sister, and We seized them with affliction that perhaps they might return [to faith].
-
49
Wa-q̣aaloo yaaaʹayyuhas saaḥirud ʹu lanaa Rabbaka bimaa ʻahida ʻiñdak; ʹinnanaa lamuhtadoon.
And they said [to Moses], "O magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. Indeed, we will be guided."
-
50
Falammaa kashafnaa ʻanhumul ʻaẓaaba ʹiẓaa hum yañkus̤oon.
But when We removed from them the affliction, at once they broke their word.
-
51
Wa-naadaa Firʻawnu fee q̣awmihee q̣aala yaa-q̣awmi ʹalaysa lee mulku Miṣra wa-haaẓihil ʹanhaaru tajree miñ taḥtee? ʹAfalaa tubṣiroon?
And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see?
-
52
ʹAm ʹana khayrum min haaẓal laẓee huwa maheenuñw walaa yakaadu yubeen?
Or am I [not] better than this one [i.e., Moses] who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear?
-
53
Falawlaaa ʹulq̣iya ʻalayhi ʹaswiratum miñ ẓahabin ʹaw jaaaʹa maʻahul malaaaʹikatu muq̣tarineen?
Then why have there not been placed upon him bracelets of gold or come with him the angels in conjunction?"
-
54
Fastakhaffa q̣awmahoo faʹaṭaaʻooh: ʹinnahum kaanoo q̣awmañ faasiq̣een.
So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of Allāh].
-
55
Falammaaa ʹaasafoonañ taq̣amnaa minhum faʹag̣raq̣naahum ʹajmaʻeen.
And when they angered Us, We took retribution from them and drowned them all.
-

Fajaʻalnaahum Salafañw Wa-Mas̤alal lil-ʹaakhireen.
And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples.
-
57
Wa-lammaa ḍuribab nu Maryama mas̤alan ʹiẓaa q̣awmuka minhu yaṣiddoon!
And when the son of Mary was presented as an example, immediately your people laughed aloud.
-
58
Wa-q̣aalooo ʹa-ʹaalihatunaa khayrun ʹam hoo? Maa- ḍaraboohu laka ʹillaa jadalaa: bal hum q̣awmun khaṣimoon.
And they said, "Are our gods better, or is he?" They did not present it [i.e., the comparison] except for [mere] argument. But, [in fact], they are a people prone to dispute.
-
59
ʹIn huwa ʹillaa ʻabdun ʹanʻamnaa ʻalayhi wa-jaʻalnaahu mas̤alal li-Baneee ʹIsraaaʹeel.
He [i.e., Jesus] was not but a servant upon whom We bestowed favor, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel.
-
60
Wa-law nashaaaʹu lajaʻalnaa miñkum malaaaʹikatañ fil ʹarḍi yakhlufoon.
And if We willed, We could have made [instead] of you angels succeeding [one another] on the earth.
-
61
Wa-ʹinnahoo laʻilmul lis-Saaʻati falaa tamtarunna bihaa wattabiʻoon: haaẓaa Ṣiraṭum Mustaq̣eem.
And indeed, he [i.e., Jesus] will be [a sign for] knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow Me. This is a straight path.
-
62
Wa-laa yaṣuddannakumush Shayṭaan: ʹinnahoo lakum ʻaduwwum mubeen.
And never let Satan avert you. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.
-
63
Wa-lammaa jaaaʹa ʻEesaa bil-Bayyinaati q̣aala q̣ad jiʹtukum̃ bil-Ḥikmati wa-liʹubayyina lakum baʻḍal laẓee takhtalifoona feeh: fattaq̣ul laaha wa-ʹaṭeeʻoon.
And when Jesus brought clear proofs, he said, "I have come to you with wisdom [i.e., prophethood] and to make clear to you some of that over which you differ, so fear Allāh and obey me.
-
64
ʹInnal laaha Huwa Rabbee wa-Rabbukum faʻbudooh: haaẓaa Ṣiraaṭum Mustaq̣eem.
Indeed, Allāh is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is a straight path."
-
65
Fakhtalafal ʹaḥzaabu mim baynihim: fawaylul lil-laẓeena z̤̣alamoo min ʻaẓaabi Yawmin ʹAleem!
But the denominations from among them differed [and separated], so woe to those who have wronged from the punishment of a painful Day.
-
66
Hal yañz̤̣uroona ʹillas Saaʻata ʹañ taʹtiyahum̃ bag̣tatañw wahum laa- yashʻuroon?
Are they waiting except for the Hour to come upon them suddenly while they perceive not?
-
67
Close friends, that Day, will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous
-
68
Yaa-ʻibaadi laa- khawfun ʻalaykumul Yawma wa-laaa ʹañtum taḥzanoon,―
[To whom Allāh will say], "O My servants, no fear will there be concerning you this Day, nor will you grieve,
-
69
ʹAllaẓeena ʹaamanoo biʹAayaatinaa wa-kaanoo Muslimeen.
[You] who believed in Our verses and were Muslims.
-
70
ʹUdkhulul Jannata ʹañtum wa-ʹazwaajukum tuḥbaroon.
Enter Paradise, you and your kinds, delighted."
-
71
Yuṭaafu ʻalayhim̃ biṣiḥaafim miñ ẓahabiñw waʹakwaab: wafeehaa maa- tashtaheehil ʹañfusu wa-talaẓẓul ʹaʻyun: wa-ʹañtum feehaa khaalidoon.
Circulated among them will be plates and vessels of gold. And therein is whatever the souls desire and [what] delights the eyes, and you will abide therein eternally.
-
72
Wa-tilkal Jannatul lateee ʹooris̤tumoohaa bimaa kuñtum taʻmaloon.
And that is Paradise which you are made to inherit for what you used to do.
-
73
Lakum feeha faakihatuñ kas̤eeratum minhaa taʹkuloon.
For you therein is much fruit from which you will eat.
-
74
ʹInnal mujrimeena fee ʻaẓaabi Jahannama khaalidoon.
Indeed, the criminals will be in the punishment of Hell, abiding eternally.
-
75
Laa- yufattaru ʻanhum wa-hum feehi mublisoon.
It will not be allowed to subside for them, and they, therein, are in despair.
-
76
Wa-maa z̤̣alamnaahum wa-laakiñ kaanoo humuz̤̣ z̤̣aalimeen.
And We did not wrong them, but it was they who were the wrongdoers.
-
77
Wa-naadaw yaa-Maaliku liyaq̣ḍi ʻalaynaa Rabbuk! Q̣aala ʹinnakum maakis̤oon.
And they will call, "O Mālik, let your Lord put an end to us!" He will say, "Indeed, you will remain."
-
78
Laq̣ad jiʹnaakum̃ bil-Ḥaq̣q̣i wa-laakinna ʹaks̤arakum lil-Ḥaq̣q̣i kaarihoon.
We had certainly brought you the truth, but most of you, to the truth, were averse.
-
79
ʹAm ʹabramooo ʹamrañ faʹinnaa mubrimoon.
Or have they devised [some] affair? But indeed, We are devising [a plan].
-
80
ʹAm yaḥsaboona ʹannaa laa- nasmaʻu sirrahum wa-najwaahum? Balaa wa-Rusulunaa ladayhim yaktuboon.
Or do they think that We hear not their secrets and their private conversations? Yes, [We do], and Our messengers [i.e., angels] are with them recording.
-
81
Q̣ul ʹiñ kaana lir-Raḥmaani waladuñ faʹana ʹawwalul ʻaabideen.
Say, [O Muḥammad], "If the Most Merciful had a son, then I would be the first of [his] worshippers."
-
82
Subḥaana Rabbis samaawaati wal-ʹarḍi Rabbil ʻArshi ʻammaa yaṣifoon!
Exalted is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe.
-
83
Faẓarhum yakhooḍoo wa-yalʻaboo ḥattaa yulaaq̣oo Yawmahumul laẓee yooʻadoon.
So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised.
-
84
Wa-Huwal laẓee fis samaaaʹi ʹIlaahuñw Wafil ʹarḍi ʹIlaah; wa-Huwal Ḥakeemul ʻAleem.
And it is He [i.e., Allāh] who is [the only] deity in the heaven, and on the earth [the only] deity. And He is the Wise, the Knowing.
-
85
Wa-tabaarakal laẓee lahoo mulkus samaawaati wal-ʹarḍi wa-maa baynahumaa: wa-ʻiñdahoo ʻilmus Saaʻah: wa-ʹilayhi turjaʻoon.
And blessed is He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them and with whom is knowledge of the Hour and to whom you will be returned.
-
86
Wa-laa yamlikul laẓeena yadʻoona miñ doonihish Shafaaʻata ʹillaa mañ shahida bil-Ḥaq̣q̣i wa-hum yaʻlamoon.
And those they invoke besides Him do not possess [power of] intercession; but only those who testify to the truth [can benefit], and they know.
-
87
Wa-laʹiñ saʹaltahum man khalaq̣ahum layaq̣oolun nallaahu faʹannaa yuʹfakoon?
And if you asked them who created them, they would surely say, "Allāh." So how are they deluded?
-
88
Wa-q̣eelihee yaa-Rabbi ʹinna haaaʹulaaaʹi q̣awmul laa yuʹminoon!
And [Allāh acknowledges] his saying, "O my Lord, indeed these are a people who do not believe."
-
89
Faṣfaḥ ʻanhum wa-q̣ul salaam! Fasawfa yaʻlamoon!
So turn aside from them and say, "Peace." But they are going to know.
