  1. 1

    ʹIẓas Samaaaʹuñ shaq̣q̣at,

    When the sky has split [open]

  2. 2

    وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ

    Wa-ʹaẓinat li-Rabbihaa wa-ḥuq̣q̣at;

    And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

  3. 3

    Wa-ʹiẓal ʹarḍu muddat,

    And when the earth has been extended

  4. 4

    Waʹalq̣at maa- feehaa wa-takhallat,

    And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]

  5. 5

    Wa-ʹaẓinat li-Rabbihaa wa-ḥuq̣q̣at.

    And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] –

  6. 6

    Yaaaʹayyuhal ʹiñsaanu ʹinnaka kaadiḥun ʹilaa Rabbika kad-ḥañ famulaaq̣eeh.

    O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.

  7. 7

    Faʹammaa man ʹootiya Kitaabahoo biyameenih.

    Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,

  8. 8

    Fasawfa yuḥaasabu ḥisaabañy yaseeraa,

    He will be judged with an easy account

  9. 9

    Wa-yañq̣alibu ʹilaaa ʹahlihee masrooraa.

    And return to his people in happiness.

  10. 10

    Wa-ʹammaa man ʹootiya Kitaabahoo wa-raaaʹa z̤̣ahrih,

    But as for he who is given his record behind his back,

  11. 11

    Fasawfa yadʻoo s̤ubooraa,

    He will cry out for destruction

  12. 12

    Wa-yaṣlaa Saʻeeraa.

    And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.

  13. 13

    إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا

    ʹInnahoo kaana feee ahlihee masrooraa.

    Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;

  14. 14

    ʹInnahoo z̤̣anna ʹal lañy yaḥoor!

    Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].

  15. 15

    Balaaa ʹinna Rabbahoo kaana bihee Baṣeeraa!

    But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.

  16. 16

    فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ

    Falaaa ʹuq̣simu bish-Shafaq̣;

    So I swear by the twilight glow

  17. 17

    وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ

    Wallayli wa-maa wa-saq̣;

    And [by] the night and what it envelops

  18. 18

    وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ

    Wal-Q̣amari ʹiẓat tasaq̣;

    And [by] the moon when it becomes full

  19. 19

    Latarkabunna ṭabaq̣an ʻañ ṭabaq̣.

    [That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.

  20. 20

    Famaa lahum laa- yuʹminoon,

    So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,

  21. 21

    Wa-ʹiẓaa q̣uriʹa ʻalayhimul Q̣urʹaanu laa- yasjudoon?

    And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?

  22. 22

    Balil laẓeena kafaroo yukaẓẓiboon.

    But those who have disbelieved deny,

  23. 23

    Wallaahu ʹAʻlamu bimaa yooʻoon.

    And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.

  24. 24

    Fabashshirhum̃ biʻAẓaabin ʹaleem,

    So give them tidings of a painful punishment,

  25. 25

    ʹIllal laẓeena ʹaamanoo wa-ʻamiluṣ ṣaaliḥaati lahum ʹAjrun g̣ayru mamnoon.

    Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
