Surah At-Tariq
Surah At-Tariq (The Nightcommer) is Surah 86 of the Holy Quran, a Meccan Surah with 17 verses, available here in English.
Verse 86:1
وَالسَّمَآءِ وَالطَّارِقِ ۟ۙ
Was-Samaaaʹi waṭ-ṬAARIQ̣;
By the heaven and the nightly star!
Verse 86:2
وَمَاۤ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ ۟ۙ
Wa-maaa ʹadraaka maṭ Ṭaariq̣?
And what will make you realize what the nightly star is?
Verse 86:3
النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ ۟ۙ
ʹAn-Najmus̤ s̤aaq̣ib!
˹It is˺ the star of piercing brightness.
Verse 86:4
اِنْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَیْهَا حَافِظٌ ۟ؕ
ʹIñ kullu nafsil lammaa ʻalayhaa ḥafiz̤̣.
There is no soul without a vigilant angel ˹recording everything˺.
Verse 86:5
فَلْیَنْظُرِ الْاِنْسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ ۟ؕ
Fal-yañz̤̣uril ʹiñsaanu mimma khuliq̣.
Let people then consider what they were created from!
Verse 86:6
خُلِقَ مِنْ مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍ ۟ۙ
Khuliq̣a mim maaaʹiñ daafiq̣,
˹They were˺ created from a spurting fluid,
Verse 86:7
یَّخْرُجُ مِنْ بَیْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَآىِٕبِ ۟ؕ
Yakhruju mim bayniṣ ṣulbi wat-taraaaʹib.
stemming from between the backbone and the ribcage.
Verse 86:8
اِنَّهٗ عَلٰی رَجْعِهٖ لَقَادِرٌ ۟ؕ
ʹInna-Hoo ʻalaa rajʻihee laq̣aadir.
Surely He is fully capable of bringing them back ˹to life˺
Verse 86:9
یَوْمَ تُبْلَی السَّرَآىِٕرُ ۟ۙ
Yawma tublas saraaaʹir,
on the Day all secrets will be disclosed.
Verse 86:10
فَمَا لَهٗ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ وَّلَا نَاصِرٍ ۟ؕ
Famaa lahoo miñ q̣uwtiñwwa walaa naaṣir.
Then one will have neither power nor ˹any˺ helper.
Verse 86:11
وَالسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ ۟ۙ
Was-Samaaaʹi ẓaatir rajʻ.
By the sky with its recurring cycles,
Verse 86:12
وَالْاَرْضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدْعِ ۟ۙ
Wal-ʹarḍi ẓaatiṣ ṣadʻ,―
and the earth with its sprouting plants!
Verse 86:13
اِنَّهٗ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ ۟ۙ
ʹInnahoo laq̣awluñ faṣl:
Surely this ˹Quran˺ is a decisive word,
Verse 86:14
وَّمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ ۟ؕ
Wa-maa huwa bil-hazl.
and is not to be taken lightly.
Verse 86:15
اِنَّهُمْ یَكِیْدُوْنَ كَیْدًا ۟ۙ
ʹInnahum yakeedoona kaydaa,
They are certainly devising ˹evil˺ plans,
Verse 86:16
وَّاَكِیْدُ كَیْدًا ۟ۚۖ
Wa-ʹakeedu kaydaa.
but I too am planning.
Verse 86:17
فَمَهِّلِ الْكٰفِرِیْنَ اَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَیْدًا ۟۠
Famahhilil kaafireena ʹamhilhum ruwaydaa.
So bear with the disbelievers ˹O Prophet˺. Let them be for ˹just˺ a little while.
