Rabbi la tadharni fardan wa anta khayrul-warithin

Background

This verse records Prophet Zakariyya’s heartfelt call when he was elderly and childless, asking not to be left alone and acknowledging that Allah is the Best of inheritors. Surrounded by the mihrab of worship, Zakariyya sees Maryam’s miraculous provision and turns to Allah for a child who will carry on prophetic service. His words show both longing and trust even when means seem closed.
