Background & benefit

Background

Authentic narrations mention that Jibrīl came to the Prophet ﷺ when he was ill and said a ruqyah over him, beginning “Bismillāh urqīk…” asking Allah to heal from every harm and illness. This background shows even the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being comforted and treated with ruqyah from Jibrīl by Allah’s permission, legitimizing ruqyah as a noble, prophetic practice rather than superstition.

Benefit

The ruqyah reminds us that healing is ultimately from Allah, whether it comes through angels or people, and it gives caregivers gentle words to use when treating loved ones for spiritual or physical ailments.
