Surah Al-Mursalat

Verse 77:1

وَالْمُرْسَلٰتِ عُرْفًا ۟ۙ

WALMURSALAATI ʻurfaa,

By those ˹winds˺ sent forth successively,

Verse 77:2

فَالْعٰصِفٰتِ عَصْفًا ۟ۙ

Falʻaaṣifaati ʻaṣfaa,

and those blowing violently,

Verse 77:3

وَّالنّٰشِرٰتِ نَشْرًا ۟ۙ

Wannaashiraati nashraa,

and those scattering ˹rainclouds˺ widely!

Verse 77:4

فَالْفٰرِقٰتِ فَرْقًا ۟ۙ

Falfaariq̣aati farq̣aa,

And ˹by˺ those ˹angels˺ fully distinguishing ˹truth from falsehood˺,

Verse 77:5

فَالْمُلْقِیٰتِ ذِكْرًا ۟ۙ

Falmulq̣iyaati ẓikraa,

and those delivering revelation,

Verse 77:6

عُذْرًا اَوْ نُذْرًا ۟ۙ

ʻUẓran ʹaw nuẓraa;―

ending excuses and giving warnings.

Verse 77:7

اِنَّمَا تُوْعَدُوْنَ لَوَاقِعٌ ۟ؕ

ʹInnamaa tooʻadoona lawaaq̣iʻ.

Surely, what you are promised will come to pass.

Verse 77:8

فَاِذَا النُّجُوْمُ طُمِسَتْ ۟ۙ

Faʹiẓan nujoomu ṭumisat;

So when the stars are put out,

Verse 77:9

وَاِذَا السَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْ ۟ۙ

Wa-ʹiẓas samaaaʹu furijat;

and the sky is torn apart,

Verse 77:10

وَاِذَا الْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ ۟ۙ

Wa-ʹiẓal jibaalu nusifat;

and the mountains are blown away,

Verse 77:11

وَاِذَا الرُّسُلُ اُقِّتَتْ ۟ؕ

Wa-ʹizar rusulu ʹuq̣q̣itat;

and the messengers’ time ˹to testify˺ comes up—

Verse 77:12

لِاَیِّ یَوْمٍ اُجِّلَتْ ۟ؕ

Liʹayyi Yawmin ʹujjilat?

for which Day has all this been set?

Verse 77:13

لِیَوْمِ الْفَصْلِ ۟ۚ

Li-Yawmil faṣl.

For the Day of ˹Final˺ Decision!

Verse 77:14

وَمَاۤ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا یَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ ۟ؕ

Wa-maaa ʹadraaka maa- Yawmul faṣl?

And what will make you realize what the Day of Decision is?

Verse 77:15

وَیْلٌ یَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ ۟

Wayluñy Yawmaʹiẓil lilmukaẓẓibeen!

Woe on that Day to the deniers!

Verse 77:16

اَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ ۟ؕ

ʹAlam nuhlikil ʹawwaleen?

Did We not destroy earlier disbelievers?

Verse 77:17

ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ الْاٰخِرِیْنَ ۟

S̤umma nutbiʻuhumul ʹaakhireen.

And We will make the later disbelievers follow them.

Verse 77:18

كَذٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِیْنَ ۟

Kaẓaalika nafʻalu bilmujrimeen.

This is how We deal with the wicked.

Verse 77:19

وَیْلٌ یَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ ۟

Wayluñy Yawmaʹiẓil lil-mukaẓẓibeen!

Woe on that Day to the deniers!

Verse 77:20

اَلَمْ نَخْلُقْكُّمْ مِّنْ مَّآءٍ مَّهِیْنٍ ۟ۙ

ʹAlam nakhlukkum mim maaaʹim maheen?

Did We not create you from a humble fluid,

Verse 77:21

فَجَعَلْنٰهُ فِیْ قَرَارٍ مَّكِیْنٍ ۟ۙ

Fajaʻalnaahu fee q̣araarim makeen,

placing it in a secure place

Verse 77:22

اِلٰی قَدَرٍ مَّعْلُوْمٍ ۟ۙ

ʹIlaa q̣adarim maʻloom?

until an appointed time?

Verse 77:23

فَقَدَرْنَا ۖۗ فَنِعْمَ الْقٰدِرُوْنَ ۟

Faq̣adarnaa faniʻmal Q̣aadiroon.

We ˹perfectly˺ ordained ˹its development˺. How excellent are We in doing so!

Verse 77:24

وَیْلٌ یَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ ۟

Wayluñy Yawmaʹiẓil lilmukaẓẓibeen!

Woe on that Day to the deniers!

Verse 77:25

اَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْاَرْضَ كِفَاتًا ۟ۙ

ʹAlam najʻalil ʹarḍa kifaataa,

Have We not made the earth a lodging

Verse 77:26

اَحْیَآءً وَّاَمْوَاتًا ۟ۙ

ʹAḥyaaaʹañw Waʹamwaataa,

for the living and the dead,

Verse 77:27

وَّجَعَلْنَا فِیْهَا رَوَاسِیَ شٰمِخٰتٍ وَّاَسْقَیْنٰكُمْ مَّآءً فُرَاتًا ۟ؕ

Wa-jaʻalnaa feehaa rawaasiya shaamikhaatiñw waʹasq̣aynaakum maaaʹañ furaataa?

and placed upon it towering, firm mountains, and given you fresh water to drink?

Verse 77:28

وَیْلٌ یَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ ۟

Wayluñy Yawmaʹiẓil lilmukaẓẓibeen!

Woe on that Day to the deniers!

Verse 77:29

اِنْطَلِقُوْۤا اِلٰی مَا كُنْتُمْ بِهٖ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ ۟ۚ

ʹIñṭaliq̣ooo ʹilaa maa- kuñtum̃ bihee tukaẓẓiboon:

˹The disbelievers will be told,˺ “Proceed into that ˹Fire˺ which you used to deny!

Verse 77:30

اِنْطَلِقُوْۤا اِلٰی ظِلٍّ ذِیْ ثَلٰثِ شُعَبٍ ۟ۙ

ʹIñṭaliq̣ooo ʹilaa z̤̣illiñ ẓee s̤alaas̤i shuʻab.

Proceed into the shade ˹of smoke˺ which rises in three columns,

Verse 77:31

لَّا ظَلِیْلٍ وَّلَا یُغْنِیْ مِنَ اللَّهَبِ ۟ؕ

laa-Laa z̤̣aleeliñw wa yug̣nee minal lahab.

providing neither coolness nor shelter from the flames.

Verse 77:32

اِنَّهَا تَرْمِیْ بِشَرَرٍ كَالْقَصْرِ ۟ۚ

ʹInnahaa tarmee bisharariñ kalq̣aṣr,

Indeed, it hurls sparks ˹as big˺ as huge castles,

Verse 77:33

كَاَنَّهٗ جِمٰلَتٌ صُفْرٌ ۟ؕ

Kaʹannahoo jimaalatuñ ṣufr.

and ˹as dark˺ as black camels.”

Verse 77:34

وَیْلٌ یَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ ۟

Wayluñy Yawmaʹiẓil lilmukaẓẓibeen!

Woe on that Day to the deniers!

Verse 77:35

هٰذَا یَوْمُ لَا یَنْطِقُوْنَ ۟ۙ

Haaẓaa Yawmu laa- yañṭiq̣oon,

On that Day they will not ˹be in a position to˺ speak,

Verse 77:36

وَلَا یُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَیَعْتَذِرُوْنَ ۟

Wa-laa yuʹẓanu lahum fayaʻtaẓiroon.

nor will they be permitted to offer excuses.

Verse 77:37

وَیْلٌ یَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ ۟

Wayluñy Yawmaʹiẓil lilmukaẓẓibeen!

Woe on that Day to the deniers!

Verse 77:38

هٰذَا یَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ ۚ جَمَعْنٰكُمْ وَالْاَوَّلِیْنَ ۟

Haaẓaa Yawmul Faṣl! Jamaʻnaakum wal-ʹawwaleen!

˹They will be told by Allah,˺ “This is the Day of ˹Final˺ Decision: We have gathered you along with earlier disbelievers ˹for punishment˺.

Verse 77:39

فَاِنْ كَانَ لَكُمْ كَیْدٌ فَكِیْدُوْنِ ۟

Faʹiñ kaana lakum kayduñ fakeedoon!

So if you have a scheme ˹to save yourselves˺, then use it against Me.”

Verse 77:40

وَیْلٌ یَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ ۟۠

Wayluñy Yawmaʹiẓil lilmukaẓẓibeen!

Woe on that Day to the deniers!

Verse 77:41

اِنَّ الْمُتَّقِیْنَ فِیْ ظِلٰلٍ وَّعُیُوْنٍ ۟ۙ

ʹInnal Muttaq̣eena fee z̤̣ilaaliñw waʻuyoon,

Indeed, the righteous will be amid ˹cool˺ shade and springs

Verse 77:42

وَّفَوَاكِهَ مِمَّا یَشْتَهُوْنَ ۟ؕ

Wa-fawaakiha mimmaa yashtahoon.

and any fruit they desire.

Verse 77:43

كُلُوْا وَاشْرَبُوْا هَنِیْٓـًٔا بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُوْنَ ۟

Kuloo washraboo haneeeʹam bimaa kuñtum taʻmaloon.

˹They will be told,˺ “Eat and drink happily for what you used to do.”

Verse 77:44

اِنَّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِی الْمُحْسِنِیْنَ ۟

ʹInnaa kaẓaalika najzil Muḥsineen.

Surely this is how We reward the good-doers.

Verse 77:45

وَیْلٌ یَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ ۟

Wayluñy Yawmaʹiẓil lil-Mukaẓẓibeen!

˹But˺ woe on that Day to the deniers!

Verse 77:46

كُلُوْا وَتَمَتَّعُوْا قَلِیْلًا اِنَّكُمْ مُّجْرِمُوْنَ ۟

Kuloo wa-tamattaʻoo q̣aleelan ʹinnakum mujrimoon.

“Eat and enjoy yourselves for a little while, ˹for˺ you are truly wicked.”

Verse 77:47

وَیْلٌ یَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ ۟

Wayluñy Yawmaʹiẓil lil-Mukaẓẓibeen!

Woe on that Day to the deniers!

Verse 77:48

وَاِذَا قِیْلَ لَهُمُ ارْكَعُوْا لَا یَرْكَعُوْنَ ۟

Wa-ʹiẓaa q̣eela lahumur kaʻoo laa- yarkaʻoon.

When it is said to them, “Bow down ˹before Allah,” they do not bow.

Verse 77:49

وَیْلٌ یَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ ۟

Wayluñy Yawmaʹiẓil lil-Mukaẓẓibeen!

Woe on that Day to the deniers!

Verse 77:50

فَبِاَیِّ حَدِیْثٍ بَعْدَهٗ یُؤْمِنُوْنَ ۟۠

Fabiʹayyi Ḥadees̤im baʻdahoo yuʹminoon?

So what message after this ˹Quran˺ would they believe in?
