  1. 1

Q̣ul ʹooḥiya ʹilayya ʹanna hustamaʻa nafarum minal Jinni faq̣aalooo ʹinnaa samiʻnaa Q̣urʹaanan ʻajabaa,

Say, [O Muḥammad], "It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur’ān [i.e., recitation].

  2. 2

Yahdeee ʹilar Rushdi faʹaamannaa bih: wa-lan nushrika bi-Rabbinaaa ʹaḥadaa.

It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.

  3. 3

Wa-ʹannahoo Taʻaalaa Jaddu Rabbinaa mat takhaẓa ṣaaḥibatañw walaa waladaa.

And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son

  4. 4

    وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطًا

    Wa-ʹannahoo kaana yaq̣oolu safeehunaa ʻal allaahi shaṭaṭaa;

And that our foolish one [i.e., Iblees] has been saying about Allāh an excessive transgression.

  5. 5

Wa-ʹannaa z̤̣anannaaa ʹal lañ taq̣oolal ʹiñsu wal-jinnu ʻal allaahi kaẓibaa.

And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allāh a lie.

  6. 6

Wa-ʹannahoo kaana rijaalum minal ʹiñsi yaʻooẓoona birijaalim minal Jinni fazaadoohum rahaq̣aa.

And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden [i.e., sin].

  7. 7

    Wa-ʹannahum z̤̣annoo kamaa z̤̣anañtum ʹal lañy yabʻas̤al laahu ʹaḥadaa.

And they had thought, as you thought, that Allāh would never send anyone [as a messenger].

  8. 8

Wa-ʹannaa lamasnas samaaaʹa fawajadnaahaa muliʹat ḥarasañ shadeedañw washuhubaa.

And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.

  9. 9

Wa-ʹannaa kunnaa naq̣ʻudu minhaa maq̣aaʻida lissamʻ; famañy yastamiʻil ʹaana yajid lahoo shihaabar raṣadaa.

And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.

  10. 10

Waʹannaa laa- nadreee ʹasharrun ʹureeda bimañ fil ʹarḍi ʹam ʹaraada bihim Rabbuhum rashadaa.

And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course.

  11. 11

    Wa-ʹannaa minnaṣ ṣaaliḥoona wa-minnaa doona ẓaalik: kunnaa ṭaraaaʹiq̣a q̣idadaa.

And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways.

  12. 12

And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allāh upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.

  13. 13

Wa-ʹannaa lammaa samiʻnal Hudaaa ʹaamannaa bih. Famañy yuʹmim bi-Rabbihee falaa yakhaafu bakhsañw walaa rahaq̣aa.

And when we heard the guidance [i.e., the Qur’ān], we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden.

  14. 14

Wa-ʹannaa minnal Muslimoona wa-minnal Q̣aasiṭoon. Faman ʹaslama faʹulaaaʹika taḥarraw rashadaa.

And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allāh], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim - those have sought out the right course.

  15. 15

    Wa-ʹammal Q̣aasiṭoona fakaanoo li-Jahannama ḥaṭabaa―

But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.'

  16. 16

    Wa-ʹalla-wis taq̣aamoo ʻalaṭ Ṭareeq̣ati laʹasq̣aynaahum maaaʹan g̣adaq̣aa.

And [Allāh revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant rain [i.e., provision]

  17. 17

Linaftinahum feeh. Wa-mañy yuʻriḍ ʻañ Ẓikri Rabbihee yaslukhu ʻAẓaabañ ṣaʻadaa.

So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment.

  18. 18

    وَأَنَّ ٱلْمَسَـٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدًا

    Wa-ʹannal Masaajida lil-laahi falaa tadʻoo maʻal laahi ʹaḥadaa;

And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allāh, so do not invoke with Allāh anyone.

  19. 19

Wa-ʹannahoo lammaa q̣aama ʻAbdul laahi yadʻoohu kaadoo yakoonoona ʻalayhi libadaa.

And that when the Servant [i.e., Prophet] of Allāh stood up supplicating Him, they almost became about him a compacted mass."

  20. 20

Q̣ul ʹinnamaaa ʹadʻoo Rabbee wa-laaa ʹushriku biheee ʹaḥadaa.

Say, [O Muḥammad], "I only invoke my Lord and do not associate with Him anyone."

  21. 21

Q̣ul ʹinnee laaa ʹamliku lakum ḍarrañw walaa rashadaa.

Say, "Indeed, I do not possess for you [the power of] harm or right direction."

  22. 22

Q̣ul ʹinnee lañy yujeeranee minal laahi ʹaḥad, wa-lan ʹajida miñ doonihee multaḥadaa,

Say, "Indeed, there will never protect me from Allāh anyone [if I should disobey], nor will I find in other than Him a refuge.

  23. 23

ʹIllaa balaag̣am minal laahi wa-Risaalaatih: wa-mañy yaʻṣil laaha wa-Rasoolahoo faʹinna lahoo Naara Jahannama khaalideena feehaaa ʹabadaa.

But [I have for you] only notification from Allāh, and His messages." And whoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger - then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever.

  24. 24

Ḥattaaa ʹiẓaa raʹaw maa- yooʻadoona fasayaʻlamoona man ʹaḍʻafu naaṣirañw waʹaq̣allu ʻadadaa.

[The disbelievers continue] until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number.

  25. 25

Q̣ul ʹin ʹadreee ʹa-q̣areebum maa tooʻadoona ʹam yajʻalu lahoo Rabbeee ʹamadaa.

Say, "I do not know if what you are promised is near or if my Lord will grant for it a [long] period."

  26. 26

    ʻAalimul G̣aybi falaa yuz̤̣hiru ʻalaa G̣aybiheee ʹaḥadaa,

[He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone

  27. 27

ʹIllaa manir taḍaa mir rasooliñ faʹinnahoo yasluku mim bayni yadayhi wa-min khalfihee raṣadaa,

Except whom He has approved of messengers, and indeed, He sends before him [i.e., each messenger] and behind him observers

  28. 28

Liyaʻlama ʹañ q̣ad ʹablag̣oo Risaalaati Rabbihim wa-ʹaḥaaṭa bimaa ladayhim wa-ʹaḥṣaa kulla shayʹin ʻadadaa.

That he [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Lord; and He has encompassed whatever is with them and has enumerated all things in number.
