The Most Gentle

Hadith/Dhikr
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration

Lā ilāha illallāhu al-Ḥalīmu al-Karīm. Subḥānallāhi wa tabārakallāhu Rabbul-ʿArshi al-ʿAẓīm. Wal-ḥamdu lillāhi Rabbil-ʿālamīn.

Translation

There is no god worthy of worship except Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous. Glory be to Allah, blessed is Allah, Lord of the Magnificent Throne. All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

Background & benefit

Background

Ali ibn Abi Talib reported that the Prophet ﷺ taught this wording for moments of grief or sadness. Rather than focusing first on the problem, the dua begins by magnifying Allah and remembering His gentleness, generosity and lordship over the Throne.

Benefit

For grief, sadness, emotional pressure and returning the heart to tawhid and praise of Allah.

When to recite

Recite when feeling grief, sadness, emotional heaviness, or when beginning a personal dua in difficult moments.
