Virtue and context
Al-Zuhri reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stoned the jamrah near the Mina mosque, he threw seven small pebbles and proclaimed Allah’s greatness with each one. He then moved forward, stood for a long time facing the qiblah with his hands raised, and supplicated.
At the middle jamrah he again threw seven small pebbles, proclaimed Allah’s greatness with each one, and then stood facing the qiblah with raised hands to supplicate. At Jamrat al-Aqabah he likewise threw seven small pebbles with a proclamation of Allah’s greatness for each, but then left without remaining there.
