Bless the Host’s Provision and Pray for Mercy

اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِيْ مَا رَزَقْتَهُمْ ، وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَارْحَمْهُمْ.

Transliteration

Allāhumma bārik lahum fī mā razaqtahum, wa-ghfir lahum, wa-rḥamhum.

Translation

O Allah, bless them in what You have provided them, forgive them and have mercy upon them.

Virtue and context

Abdullah ibn Busr (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed with his father. The family brought him a meal and a preparation made from dates, cheese, and butter, and he ate. Dates were then served; as he ate them, he placed the stones between his fingers and held his index and middle fingers together. Shuʿbah added that he understood the report to mean that the date stones could be held between two fingers. A drink was then brought, and after drinking the Prophet ﷺ passed it to the person on his right. When Abdullah’s father held the rein of the Prophet’s mount and asked him to pray for the family, the Prophet ﷺ asked Allah to bless what He had provided them, forgive them, and have mercy upon them.
