Tasbih, Tahmid and Takbir After Every Prayer

(x33) سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ. (x33) اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ. (x33) اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ. لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ ، وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ.

Transliteration

Subḥāna-llāh (x33), Alḥamduli-llāh (x33), Allāhu akbar (x33), Lā ilāha illā Allāhu waḥdahū lā sharīka lah, lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamd, wa Huwa ʿalā kulli shay’in Qadīr.

Translation

Allah is free from imperfection. All praise be to Allah. Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah. He is Alone and He has no partner whatsoever. To Him Alone belong all sovereignty and all praise. He is over all things All-Powerful.

Virtue and context

Abu Hurairah (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught a form of remembrance after every prayer: glorifying Allah thirty-three times, praising Him thirty-three times, and declaring His greatness thirty-three times, then completing one hundred with the declaration that none is worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner, and that all dominion and praise belong to Him. He ﷺ promised forgiveness even when a person’s sins are as abundant as the foam of the sea. Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) reported another established form after every obligatory prayer: thirty-three tasbīḥs, thirty-three taḥmīds, and thirty-four takbīrs. The Prophet ﷺ described these as remembrances whose regular reciter would not be disappointed.
