A Praise Ten Angels Competed to Record

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ حَمْدًا كَثِيْرًا طَيِّبًا مُبَارَكًا فِيْهِ ، كَمَا يُحِبُّ رَبُّنَا أَنْ يُحْمَدَ وَيَنْبَغِيْ لَهُ.

Transliteration

Al-ḥamdu lillāhi ḥamdan kathīran ṭayyiba-m-mubārakan fīhi mubārakan ʿalayh, kamā yuḥibbu Rabbunā wa yarḍā ay-yuḥmada wa yanbaghī lah.

Translation

All praise is for Allah; praise which is abundant, pure, blessed and perpetual, as our Lord loves to be praised and is appropiate for Him.

Virtue and context

Anas ibn Malik (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) reported that he was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ in a circle when a man arrived and greeted him with peace and Allah’s mercy. The Prophet ﷺ returned the greeting with peace, mercy, and blessings. After sitting down, the man praised Allah with abundant, pure, and blessed praise, in the manner Allah loves to be praised and as befits Him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked the man to repeat what he had said. After hearing it again, the Prophet ﷺ swore by the One in whose hand was his soul that ten angels had rushed to write the praise, each eager to record it. They did not know how to write its reward, so they raised it to the Possessor of Might, who commanded them to record it exactly as His servant had said it.
