Virtue and context
Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) reported that he prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night. The Prophet ﷺ recited Surah al-Baqarah, then al-Nisa and then Ali Imran at a measured pace. When he passed a verse glorifying Allah, he glorified Him; when a verse contained a petition, he asked Allah; and when it mentioned seeking protection, he sought Allah’s protection.
The Prophet ﷺ bowed and glorified his Magnificent Lord, remaining in bowing about as long as he had stood. After rising, he declared that Allah hears the one who praises Him and stood for roughly the length of the bowing. He then prostrated, glorifying his Most High Lord, and his prostration lasted nearly as long as his standing. A transmitted wording adds praise of their Lord after the declaration that Allah hears whoever praises Him.
